RATHBUN Extension Agent, Home Ec The Kosciusko County Extension Homemakers will hold their 12th annual Christmas Bazaar, November 14 and 15, in the women’s building, located on the fairgrounds, Warsaw. The public is invited to the bazaar to get a jump on their Christmas shopping. Selling hours are from 9a.m. to 9p.m. Friday and 9a m. to3p.m. Saturday. The 62 clubs, with an approximate membership of 1,200, spend months in preparation for the Bazaar. The Christmas Bazaar county committee works to organize the bazaar, provide workers during the open hours and publicize it. The purpose of the Christmas Bazaar is to raise money for individual clubs to function through the year and to give the public an opportunity to purchase handmade gift items at reasonable prices. Clubs bringing in items for sale are reminded that check-in time is November 13 from 12-4 p.m. Unsold items can be picked up on November 15 from 3-4 p.m. The exteniosn homemaker Christmas Bazaar has many opportunities. 1) An opportunity for extension homemakers to show and sell with pride items which they have made; 2) an opportunity for you to see and

Milford library notes
By JODI BROWN Have you forgotten about your local library? Well, we haven’t forgotten about you! We’ve been busy making many changes, coming up with new displays, relocating books, up-dating our records, ordering new material and just generally sprucing the place up. We would appreciate any ideas, thoughts or feelings you have about the Milford Library and how it can serve you better — fore we’re here to serve the community. Here are several new books we’ve just received which are sure to whet your reading appetite: “Poinciana” by Phyllis Whitney. James Micheners’ new novel “The Covenant” and “The Awakening Land” by Conrad Richter. The latter was recently shown on T.V. in a three part

series which starred Elizabeth Montgomery and Hal Holbrook. Here’s a sneak preview of books to look for on our shelves in coming months; “Growing up free-raising your child in the ’Bo’s” by Letty Cottin Pogrebin. Alan Alda has this to say about the book — “I love the book. If one generation of caring people will take this book to heart, I think there will be hope for our children’s children.” Also for all you cat lovers — “The Morris Approach, and Insider’s Guide to Cat Care” by Barbara Bum. This informative and entertaining guide includes 25 photos of the feline superstar. We’ve also been receiving many new children’s books which will be highlighted in the coming month as we ready ourselves for Children’s Book Week — November 17-23. Don’t forget those dates. Our story hour has begun with a bang and we look forward to welcoming children of all ages each Saturday at 2 p.m. This is a wonderful way to interest your child in the world of books and develop their library usage. Make a point of visiting your public library this week! Syracuse library By ROSALYN JONES The “Books and Coffee” book review will be on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a m. The book topic will be “Alice: Her Life and Times,” a fascinating biography of Alice Roosevelt Longworth, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt. November 17 through the 22nd is National Children’s Book Week. This would be an excellent opportunity for parents to bring their children in and get them acquainted with the library. The children’s room is well-stocked with excellent books for the elementary grades. We would like to encourage the reading habit at an early age.

Dear Louisa, 1 am a small town girl who has married a man who works for a big company. My husband is very smart and can easily adapt himself to customs he has not been used to. We have moved several times because he has been promoted and we meet people who have been accustomed to finer things than we have enjoyed. I am not quite sure of how meals should be served or the proper clothes to wear on certain occasions. I learn these things by watching other people but isn't there a quicker way than that? Can you give me some good ideas? Wife-Calif. Answer: There are some splendid books on how to arrange Lakeland Locals Jay Peffley, manager of the Syracuse Northern Indiana Public Service Company office, is resting at his Syracuse Lake home this week following the onset of an illness that began last Tuesday. table settings and on the proper way to accept or refuse invitations. But the best way for you to entertain when you meet new people is to do so as simply as possible and with graciousness. A buffet style meal is quite proper in this day and time and most people enjoy a casual occasion rather than one so formal. Prepare as much of your food as possible before hand and do those things that can be done on the day before you have your dinner or party. Try to be relaxed and smiling and 1 am sure your guests will enjoy being in your home. Louisa. Address: Louisa, Box 532, Orangeburg.
