Golden will be honored by their family with an open house at the Barbee Community Church. The celebration will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, from 2-4 p.m. The Goldens have been living at Little Barbee Lake, r 1 Warsaw, for nearly 12 years and have been active in such community affairs as Conservation Club, Cottage Owners’ Association and are actively involved in the Barbee Community Church. Busy week end for Girl Scouts By CHRISTY COBBUM Girl Scout Troop 125, along with leaders Anita Bjella, Pat Eldridge and Kay Neff went on a camping trip October 18 and 19, at Camp Singing Hills, in Middlebury. One of the highlights of the week end was the Sunday morning church service at Dead Man’s Hill. At the last meeting, on October 21, the group went to the Syracuse Fire Department. Kathi Anderson gave the group a tour of the new ambulance and showed harmful drugs. Haunted House at Leesburg The Leesburg United Methodist Church will hold its annual “Haunted Mansion” this week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, Oct. 31-Nov. 2, from 710 p.m. The house is located two miles west of the Peoples’ State Bank in Leesburg. Last year nearly 1,400 people joined the thrills and excitement of the haunted mansion and the hayride through the long, dark lane. Popcorn and cider will be availale throughout each ‘evening. Gilbert, Sullivan program Mrs. E. L. Fosbrink presented a program on Gilbert and Sullivan at the Wednesday Afternoon Club meeting. The successful British team was not too cooperative with one another, never friendly and yet collaborated to gain worldwide acclaim. Sir William S. Gilbert, the dramatist and Sir Arthur S. Sullivan, the composer, are best known for the comic operas of H.M.S. Pinafore, Pirates of Penzance and the Mikado. Sullivan, among other musical triumphs, wrote “Onward Christian Soldiers” and “The Last Chord.” While refreshments were served at Mrs. Ray Jones’ home with Mrs. James E. Lesh assisting, members enjoyed musical selections from the three comic operas, on October 22. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Dean L. Pittman’s home on November 12. Lakeland Locals Sheli Miller of Dewart Lake and Sandy Keim of Warsaw spent last week end at Ball State University’s homecoming. The girls were visiting Shell’s sister, Shari Anne Miller. Sheli and Shari are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller. David Cory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cory, r 1 Milford, has been accepted into Alpha Omega Alpha, an honor medical society. Cory is a senior medical student at Indiana University at Indianapolis. Selection is made on the basis of grades and recommendation of faculty and classmates. Cory, his wife, Mary, and their son, Peter; reside in Indianapolis.

The wedding of Margaret Anne Henderson of Cincinnati. Ohio and Donald E. Hasse, also of Cincinnati, took place September 27 at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church, Cincinnati. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. James H. Henderson of Houston, Texas. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Hasse of Syracuse. Maid of honor was Lois Catherine Henderson of Austin, Texas. The best man was James J. Hasse of Chicago. Ushers were James M. Henderson of Laurel, Miss, and Steven F. Hasse of Syracuse. The couple resides in Cincinnati. Both are 1975 graduates METHOD-FREW ENGAGEMENT — Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Method, r 1 Milford, announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie Method, to David W. Frew of Fort Hood, Texas. Frew is the son of Rev. and Mrs. Phil Frew, r 2 Syracuse. A December 14 wedding is being planned at the Saint Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Syracuse at 2: 30 p.m. Hie bride-elect is a 1976 graduate of Wawasee High School and a 1980 graduate of Manchester College. She is employed by Syracuse Enterprises and Loving Care Inc. Her fiance is a 1976 graduate of Hammond High School and is a member of the United States Army. Volunteers needed for Bowen Center The Bowen Center Volunteer Department Service has need of the following volunteers for: LAYOUT — Needed for the “VIP” newsletter. Must be someone who enjoys doing layouts or paste-ups or would like to learn. HAIR STYLIST — Help someone feel better by sharing your talent in the hair shop, which gives free hair care to clients of the Bowen Center. To volunteer for this position, you must be licensed, do men’s and women’s hair and be able to give one-half day a week. PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM — Volunteers are needed for this new program for pre-school children with emotional problems. If you have patience and enjoy working with younger children, perhaps this program will fit your needs as well as the Bowen Center’s.
