Part of county in corn disaster area
Although it’s harvest time for many Hoosier farmers, the harvest may not be very bountiful this year. According to a Farmers Home Administration official, Kosciusko and Wabash Counties were declared a disaster area on Friday, Oct. 10. because of the corn loss. Farmers Home Administration supervisor Dave Lengerich supervises Kosciusko and Wabash Counties. He made the announcement after inspecting both counties’ crops. Crops hit the hardest during the summer months were south of US 30 and west of SR 15. The extreme dry wind was prevalent during pollination with a lack of rain available for the sandy crop soil. Some corn stalks are six to seven feet tall, but there are few kernels on the corn cob. According to Kosciusko County Extension agent Victor R. Virgil, the corn crops planted in the Burket and Mentone areas were hardest hit, with the area's beans and wheat crops unaffected Farmers who planted corn in Kosciusko and Wabash Counties may qualify for a FmHA loan if they have a 20 per cent loss below their five-year average. Persons qualifying for an actual loss loan. Man solicits tie-downs Ruby Wildman, r 4 lot 85 Turtle Bay Mobile Home Park.
