THIS OLD photo of Augsburger’s store shows the old building on SR 15 in Our Town some 40 years ago. Shown from left are Woodie Schram, a former employee of the store who now owns supermarkets of his own in Bremen and Warsaw: the former Leah Ruch: John F. Augsburger: Floyd Schuder; and John Augsburger’s children, Carolyn and John B. It’s interesting to note the prices, with coffee being 25 cents a pound! Peas were 17 cents a can. —o— WOW! OUR Town has reached 70 per cent of its United Way goal with Paul Reith serving as Milford’s coordinator. The county, on the other hand, is only at a little over 30 per cent of its goal. -0AN AD appears elsewhere in this issue of The M-J listing one of the Christian Church parsonages for sale. The reason the parsonage is going to be sold is because Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shearer, who are currently residing there, have purchased the former Esther Markley home on Main Street and will be vacating the church property in the near future.

JEAN TREESH, Milford Town Board president, is a little, maybe we should say more than a little, upset about persons putting walnuts in alleys for others to drive over. She just doesn’t like it one bit. fjr \\o. r * ■ ib SHOWN HERE is Dave Wollman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wollman of near Our Town. Dave is in his second year of teaching at Concord High School, where he has classes in general business and business law. He is also assistant coach in football and track. He was featured as a “Know Your Neighbor” in our sister paper, ’the paper’ serving in citv of Elkhart, so we

borrowed the item for this column to share with our readers since Dave is a former Milford resident. “1 enjoy that.” he said about his work. “I enjoy working with the kids. It’s a lot of hours, especially football. 1 don’t think people realize how many hours a coach puts in.” Dave feels that Concord has a good athletic program and that it has improved tremendously during the past few years. A physical education major, he would eventually like to be a strength coach. “It’s a new position, and I think they’ll go to that at the high school level.” The strength coach runs the weight programs for all sports, both boys’ and girls’. “I enjoy the total athletic program, and I just don’t get to see that much of it, except football and track. Eventually high schools will have a strength coach and pay him like a head coach. Not only will it be of benefit to the kids, but also to the coaches in that they won’t have to worry about it anymore.” Dave and his wife. Shelly, live in New Paris, where he has a weight room set up at home. ”1 like to work out myself.” he said. He also enjoys golf and throwing shot and discus. “And I have a good family life. I enjoy getting out with my wife on the week ends, doing things together.” By the way, Wawasee played Concord Friday night on the Minutemen’s home field. Score: Wawasee 7, Concord 35. —oDAN AND Pam Smith and son. Andy, former Milford residents who now reside in Gravelton, had a unique experience recently in the upper New York Adirondack

mountains while on a two week camping trip to the northeast. A bear got into one of the coolers which they had left outside their van and took only the candy bars. The animal did not hurt the cooler nor did it disturb the other food. Can’t Ijelp but wonder if there are good dentists for bears with a sweet tooth! —-o— WE’VE GOTTEN out of the habit of listing birthdays in this column but are making two exceptions this week. MICHAEL ZIMMERMAN, Sr.. Our Town, will observe his 80th birthday on Sunday with his five sons and one daughter honoring him at a dinner. Mrs. Oscar Graff, of east of town, observed her 86th birthday on Tuesday. She will celebrate the special day on Saturday evening in Elkhart in the home of her daughter. Katherine Sauder.
