Warriors fall to Rockies

By SHARON STUCKMAN Homecoming game at Wawawee did not turn out as Wawasee fans had hoped. The Warriors could not put together a teamwork situation on either offense or defense. Plymouth received and Mark Keyser returned the ball to the Plymouth 34-yard line, where he was run out of bounds by Joe Krizman. Defense by Hunziker and Cusick brought up fourth down. The Warrior offense did not move for a first down and Mike Brian’s punt was blocked at the Wawasee six-yard line, where the Rockies took over. On the next play Mark Hessler ran the six yards for the first Plymouth touchdown. The kick was off to the left and the score was 6-0, with only three minutes 10 seconds gone in the game. Dave Shook’s kick was returned by Tim Kroh to the 31yard line. Kroh ran to the 36 on a pitch out, a Kirzman to Clark pass was imcomplete, and Krizman kept the ball to run close to the 41, bringing up fourth and short yardage. On the next play Kirzman gained the first down, only to lose the ball when Matt Gangloff recovered a ball dropped by Mike Brian. Plymouth took over at the 35yard line. Cavagnini ran to the 26, where he was stopped by Mark DeWitt. Hessler gained a first down at the 20. where he was held by Chris Bornman. Cavagnini was stopped to two runs by Godfrey and Hunziker, but a completed pass to Andy Nixon in the end zone added to the Rockie score. The kick was also good and the Rockie lead grew to 13. Tim Kroh returned the punt to the 21-yard line. Krizman was hit at the 10 for a loss and a pass to Lance Clark fell short. On the next play Krizman completed a pass to Brian Kistler at the 28, but short of a first down. Brian’s punt was downed at the 49. Cavagnini was stopped at the 46 by Bales and Hessler was downed at the Plymouth 45 by Rieff and Davies as the first quarter ended. Scott Schuh ran the ball to the Wawasee 43, where he was run out of bounds by Cusick, but a holding penalty cost the Rockies 15 yards and good defense by Bornman brought out the Rockie punt team. On the next drive Kroh gained, three yards, Brian was caught for a loss of one by Samuelson and Krizman gained four yards. Brian’s punt fell at the 38-yard line. A pitch out to Kroh was stopped by Culp and a Krizman pass intended for Clark was caught by Larry Johns and run back to the Wawasee 23-yard line. Cavagnini was downed at the 19-yard line by Hunziker and Rieff. Hessler ran to the eight where he stopped. Johns, Shoop and Sissel did not gain a first down and turned the ball over to the Warriors on their one yard line. On the first down the ball fell loose in the end zone, giving Plymouth a safety. On Brian’s free kick from the 20, the ball bounced off a Rockie foot and was saved by Mark DeWitt at the Plymouth 48. Krizman’s next pass to Clark was broken up by Feagler. Kroh gained five yards on the next play, only to have Dave Hodges intercept a pass. The Rockies were unable to score on the next drive, where an Warriors travel to Concord Friday The Wawasee Warriors will travel to Concord on Friday to play a Northern Lakes Conference match against the Minutemen. The gates will open at 6 p.m. with gametime being at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the gate are $2 for adults and $1.50 for students in grades one-six. A pre-sale for $1.50 will be held in the high school office on Friday for students only. Buses will leave on the following schedule: North Webster — 6:00 Syracuse —6:15 Milford-6:30 Students must purchase tickets in advance for $1 at the high school or any junior high school to insure a seat on the bus.

WHS girls' golf team ends season 7 and 1

The Wawasee High School Girls’ Golf Team ended the season with a 7-1 record. Towards the end of the season, the team was stripped from five to four girls when Susa Naab injured a finger. , The sectionals were played at Colonial Oakes, Fort Wayne. WHS placed fourth, missing the regional cut. Amy Reed had 46 on the front nine, 48 on the back nine, for a total of 94. Nancy Norman had 50 on the front nine, 41 on the back nine, totaling 91.

The kick was good and with 4:41 left in the third quarter the score was 22-0. Wawasee’s possession was short and Brian’s next punt was out of bounds at the Wawasee 38. The final Rockie touchdown came with 1:29 left in the third quarter, after two completed passes to Rockaway brought the ball to the 8-yard line. Cavagnini carried to the five and Hessler ran into the end zone. Bailey’s kick was good. In the fourth quarter neither team added to the score. Both coaches gave the substitute players some field time at the end of the game. The game ended Plymouth 29WawaseeO. On Friday the Warriors face the Minutemen at Concord.

Nancy Norman placed third in individuals in the sectionals. This qualified her for the regionals, played Monday, Oct. 7. She had problems, but was fortunate to participate. The four member team winners were: first place — Jane Musser, June Auer, Janet Hayes and Pearl Miller; second place — Doris Sedgewick, Pat Hoover, Dot Wysong and Marge Yoder; third place — Delight Craig, Bonnie Newman, Alice Herbison and Nedra Jones. Loser prizes went to teams composed of: Marge Newcomer, Rosie Lantz, Mary Kimble and Ces Freehill; Betty Kline, Margie Purdeem, Ginny Lomont and Ann Brooks; Gloria Stoffel, Mary Jane Knudsen, Lori Welty and Lura Stone.

Volleyball team having a winning season, downs Central

By SHARON STUCKMAN Monday night at Elkhart Central the Wawasee varsity volleyball team defeated Elkhart Central 15-10, 3-15 and 15-6.

Little League sales winners

The winner of the SSO cash prize drawing from the summer Little League popcorn sales prograrh is Cathy McDonald. Cathy played for Syracuse Rubber and her team mom was Sandy Cobbum. Four other names were drawn for cash prizes. Mark Keener, playing for the American Legion, won $25. His team mom was Kathi Anderson. Randy Smith won sls and played for Love Furniture, team mon) was Cheryl Smith. Jamie Mosser ans Shawn Butt won $lO and $5 respectively. They played for S<puth Shore, whose team mom was Arlene Berkey and Kiwanis, whose team mom was Nancy Shields. “There were 637 name slips in the drawing,’’ said Sherry Lantz, who chaired the program. Each child selling $lO and up had his or her name in for every $lO worth of popcorn sold. Wawasee Boosters sponsoring game

When the Wa'ivasee Booster Club met in the WHS library on Monday evening, Oct. 6, the club discussed the sponsorship of the Globe Traveler Basketball Game. The game will feature the Travelers versus the Wawasee Faculty. The game will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22 in the high school gym at 7 p.m. Advanced tickets are available for a small fee at all Lakeldnd Community Schools or by contacting Mrs. Bev Spry, box 624 Leesburg, Ind., 46538. Tickets will also be available at the door for an additional fee, with preschoolers admitted free. The club also announced that

The junior varisty lost to Elkhart Central 3-15. 15-5 and 215. Thursday at Wawasee against North Wood the varsity lost in a well played match. Scores were: 7-14.15-13 and 10-15. Lonnie Black was 14-14 serving. Angie Hostetler was 17-17 serving and had a good night setting Lee Schact was 24-29 spiking. The varsity is now 7-3 and 3-2 in NLC. The junior varisty lost to North Wood 15-8.10-15 and 11-15. At the junior varisty tournament at Warsaw on Saturday Wawasee defeated Warsaw in the first round by scores of 15-9, 15-3, to move to the finals. They then lost to a tough North Wood squad. Three players injured in game Three East Noble High School football players were injured on Thursday, Oct. 2, at a Wawasee High School freshman home game. Armando Espinoza, 14, 413 Oak St., Kendallville, was injured in the knee area; Mike Roberts, 14, 1113 South Main St., Kendallville, sustained injuries in the back of the neck; and Mike Slone, 16, 421 North Main St., Kendallville, was injured in the back. All three w>ere transported by the Syracuse EMS to Kendallville’s McCray Hospital.
