Camelot Ski Team at Spartan Open
The Camelot Ski Team attended the Spartan Open on the
LWBA to have board meeting Officers of the Lakeland Women’s Bowling Association and league presidents or representatives will meet Monday, July 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Syracuse home of association secretary Kathryn Knisley. The association meeting for all members has been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Wawaseeßowl, south of Syracuse on SR 13. Secretary Knisley reported that cards have been sent to one member of each team that participated in league bowling last season and this person is responsible to notify all women members of her team. It was brought to the association’s attention by the Women’s Indiana State Bowling Association, treasurer Kay Kelly of Kokomo that all state tournament checks should be cashed before July 31,1980, or they will be void.
- r . ’"7 ,3%: r V * > ~ i *4 7 if J \ i Jbi/ CAMELOT SKI TEAM — Camelot Lake will be the scene for the Rollie William Memorial Indiana State Skiing Championship on July 26-27. The Camelot Ski team has been host for the state tournament for the last three years and Camelot Lake is the permanent home site of the championship. Camelot Ski Team is a four-time state champion and will be defending the title again this year. The tournament will be Saturday, July 26, from 7 a.m. until dark and will pick up again at 7 a.m. Sunday, July 27. Last year there were 226 contestants participating and the group anticipates the same number this year. Members of the ski team in front are John Tully, Brad Smith, Paula Smith and Jane Tully. Grand River in Lansing, Mich., on Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20. Jane Tully received first in overall performance and in slalom, trick and jump. She also obtained an exceptional performance rating, which is the highest rating the American Water Ski Association will certify Jon Tully was sixth in tricks and seventh in the jump and Jill Tully was first in slalom, trick and jump. Also placing were Todd Smith who placed sixth in slalom, eighth in trick and third in jump; Paula Smith, fourth in slalom, second in trick and second in jump; and Brad Smith, eighth in slalom, fifth in trick and third in jump. Baseball team ends season
Awards were presented at the recent Wawasee High School baseball banquet. Sam Beer, a junior, was Jr. sailboat race on Tippy Due to thunderstorms, only one junior sailboat race was held on Lake Tippecanoe Saturday, July 19. The first five place winners were Fred Buckingham of Goshen, first, in a Sunfish; Jason Davidson and Scott Pairelson of Leesburg, second, in a Hobie 16 foot; J. B. Van Meter of Warsaw, third, in a Hobie 14 foot; Jeff Laderer of South Bend, fourth, in a Sunfish; and Renee Evans of Euclid, Ohio, fifth, in a Flying Fish. Sailors sixteen and under are eligible to sail in the junior races. The next junior sailboat races will be held Saturday, August 2.

The Syracuse Little League will hold its chicken barbecue on Saturday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Rotary field on SR 13 north of town. The barbecue is a rescheduling of the one originally slated for July 5. Tickets from the July 5 barbecue will be honored. Tickets for the barbecue will be sold at the door or may be purchased from any Little League member. Tourney The Syracuse Little League will host a Travel League double elimination tourney on the 26th. The tourney will feature six games involving teams from an area within a 50 mile radius. The tourney will be held at Rotary field. Also on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., the Wawasee Kiwanis Club’s Pitch, Hit and Run contest will be held at Vega Field.

Graduating seniors included two-year letterman Gary Vance, catcher and pitcher; letterman Scot Green, a pitcher; and Keefer who is moving to California. Nine lettermen will return for the 1981 season. Coach Gary Baker stated the team’s major weakness was pitching and noted many times fielding was very costly. Baker is sure that with nine lettermen returning for the coming school season the team’s ratings should greatly improve. Myron Dickerson will replace Baker at the helm of the baseball program next year.
