Thurl Pottenger . Thurl Pottenger, 92, Tucson, Ariz., former owner of a hardware store in Syracuse, died July 14. He had been failing in health for some time. Pottenger was at onetime a Warsaw hardware store coowner. He was born in Claypool and was a graduate of Claypool High School and Terre Haute Teachers College, Terre Haute, in 1911. He taught at Beaver Dam and Claypool. Later he and a brother, Royal, now deceased, opened hardware stores in
South, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. OUT OF IC Richard Fehnel, Milford, was taken out of intensive care at Goshen Hospital, Tuesday, July 22 and placed in room 309. Fehnel suffered a heart attack on Wednesday, July 16. He is reportedly progressing well and can receive visitors after Thursday, July 24. Syracuse EMS , The Syracuse EMS ambulance is out of service this week, although the technicians will respond. North Webster, EMS will transport those needing hospital care. Cheryl Rodriguez, 20, r 3 Wawasee Heights, Syracuse, was at 66 East Shore Drive, visiting on July 16. She dove off a pier into shallow water and needed assistance. Syracuse EMS applied a cervial collar, placed her on a backboard and North Webster EMS transported her to a hospital. Ivo Heckaman, 67, Syracuse, was at Maxwelton Golf Course on July 16. He had difficulty in breathing and had a loss of color. Friends called the Syracuse EMS, when they arrived he was fine. Fifteen-year-old Frank Hensley, 412 E. Boston St., Syracuse, arrived at the fire station on July 16. He had had a car hood closed on his third finger, causing a laceration. His mother, Mary Hensley, took him to an emergency room for stitches after the EMS cleaned and bandaged the wound. Rilla Pauline Hamman, 82, r 1 box 283 W, Syracuse, complained of pain eariler in the night. She refused treatment on July 17 and her husband, James Hamman, stated that her doctor advised her to go to the hospital. Jean Niles, 52, 118 Medusa Court, Syracuse, was mowing the lawn on July 19 when she was hit by an unknown object on her left leg. Syracuse EMS transported her to Goshen Hospital for a tetanus shot and to have the wound checked. Scott Eisenhour, four, r 5 box 58
Nappanee and Syracuse, which were endeavors interrupted when they both enlisted in the service for World War 11. Following the service, they moved to Warsaw and owned and operated the Pottenger Hardware, Center St., selling in 1949 as an Ace store to Ned Maze. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Warsaw and was the last surviving founder of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Flora E. Walker of Pierceton; one son, Hal,
Syracuse, was taken to the fire station by his mother on July 19. He had shut his right hand in a door and had a small laceration, with swelling on another finger. Dave Smith, 18, 69625 CR 127 New Paris, was. involved in a motorcycle accident on July 19. Syracuse EMS was called to Waco Drive, Pier 600. He suffered no apparent injuries. Betty Davidson, 67, r 5 box 426 Syracuse, was having difficulty breathing on July 19. Her vitals were taken, then the EMS transported her to Goshen Hospital. Dr. Roy Myers, 88, r 4 box 189, Syracuse, was suffering from chest pains on July 23. He requested the EMS at 1:54 a.m. and was transported to Goshen Hospital. Card of thanks

He weighed eight pounds, 10 ounces and measured 204 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alan Moir, Chesterton and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph W. Thornburg, Syracuse. Paternal greatgrandmother is Blanche Thornburg. Welcoming the baby home will be Erin Grace, three years old.

Goshen first aidmen were called to the nursing home but were unable to assist Miss Stiffler. Police were notified to investigate the death. It was ruled she died by accidental choking. She was born on May 11, 1923, to Mr. and Mrs. Orlan (Blanche M. Ross) Stiffler, in Syracuse. She is survived by an aunt, Dorothy Balsley, Elkhart and several cousins. Graveside services were conducted Saturday, July 19, at 10 a.m. in the Syracuse cemetery. Rev. Sam Wolf, pastor of People’s Bible Church, Benton, officiated. Arrangements were made by Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse. Ruth Oosting t Sept. 7,1910—July 20,1980 Ruth E. Oosting, 69, 203 N. Nappanee St., Elkhart, sister of Paul Boyer, Milford, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, July 20, in Elkhart Hospital. She had been a patient for two days. Mrs. Oosting was a native of Goshen and was bom on September 7, 1910. On December 24, 1951, she married Kermit F. Oosting in Elkhart. He survives. Additional survivors include a son, Edward L. Boomershine, Elkhart; a stepson, Fred Oosting, Middleville, Mich.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, in the Westbrook-Metz-Clouse Funeral Home. Rev. J. Kent Borgaard officiated and burial was in the Prairie Street cemetery. Fredona Thompson July 10,1903—July 21,1980 Mrs. Francis (Fredona B.) Thompson, 77, r 2 Claypool, sister of Mrs. Amar G. (Cleo) Hora, Syracuse, died of complications following an extended illness at 1:45 a.m. Monday, July 21, in the Prairie View Rest Home, Warsaw. She was born on July 10,1903, in Clay Township, Kosciusko County to Austin D. and Rose (Heckman) Decker. On June 23, 1919, she married Francis Thompson at Saint Joseph, Mich. He survives. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Packerton United Methodist Church. Additional survivors include one sister, Mrs. Noah F. (Neva) Wolfe, Pierceton. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

He weighed six pounds, five ounces and measured 184 inches long. Funeral services were conducted today (Wednesday) at 10:30 am. in the ChamnessTucker Funeral Home, Claypool. Rev. Steven Cain officiated and burial was in Graceland cemetery. Rex L. Tucker Oct. 18,1914-July 17,1980 Rex L. Tucker, 65, r 1 Mentone, former driver for Liberty Trailers, Syracuse, died at 8 p.m. Thursday, in Parkview Hospital, Plymouth. He had been in failing health the last four years. He was born in Mentone on October 18, 1914. In 1940 he was married to the former Dorothy Annabel Long. She survives. Tucker was a retired employee from the Mentone Dairy and recently was employed as a driver for Liberty Trailers, Syracuse. He was a lifetime resident of the Mentone area. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jay, Harrodsburg, Ky.; one granddaughter; one brother, Darel, Mentone; one sister, Mrs. Lena Igo, Claypool and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, in the Haupert Funeral Home, Akron. Burial was in Palestine cemetery.
