According to Steve Miller, his son-in-law, he is doing real good. Kaiser was admitted to the hospital Monday, July 7. HOME FROM HOSPITAL Frank Chamberlin, 124 W. Portland St., Syracuse, was released from £outh Bend Memorial Hospital, Friday, July 11. UNDERGOES SURGERY Don Baumgardt, well known area resident, underwent abdominal surgery at the Goshen Hospital last Wednesday afternoon and remains a patient in room 225. Births HARRIS, Christopher Michael Mr. and Mrs. Michael Harris, 70600 CR 23 New Paris, are the parents of a son, Christopher Michael, born Tuesday, July 1, at 5:13 a m. in Goshen Hospital. He weighed nine pounds, 11 ounces and measured 21 inches long. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Jean Knisely, Syracuse and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris, Syracuse. Mrs. June Harris, Syracuse, is the paternal greatgrandmother. STUMP daughter Mr. and Mrs. Terry Stump, Dewart Lake, are the parents of a daughter born around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in Elkhart Hospital. She weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces and measured 20 inches long. No name has been chosen yet for the new baby. Maternal grandpa rents are Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Golden, r 5 Syracuse and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stump, Milford. STANSBERRY, Kyle Johnson Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stansberry, Atlanta, are the parents of a son, Kyle Johnson, born Monday, July 7, at 9:20 p.m. He weighed six pounds, nine ounces and measured 21 inches long. Mrs. Stansberry is the former Nancy Johnson, Syracuse. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, Syracuse and paternal grandmother is Mrs. Alma Shriner, Mishawaka. Maternal greatgrandparents are Floyd Johnson. Goshen and Russell Baker, Bremen. MARTIN, William Benjamin Mr. and Mrs. David Martin, r 1 box 592. North Webster, announce the birth of their son William Benjamin. William was born at Goshen Hospital on July 9 at 5:23 a.m. He weighed eight pounds, four ounces and was 214 inches in length. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sebert, of Cicero, are the maternal grandparents and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. O. W Martin, Syracuse. There are two greatgrandmothers, maternal, Mrs. Evelyn Sebert, Corunna; and paternal, Mrs. Oma Hunt, Trafalgar. William has one brother, seven half-brothers and one half-sister. Syracuse EMS The Syracuse EMS responded to several calls this week in the county. Elsie Stucky, 84, 418 S. Lake Street, Syracuse, developer severe back pain and a fever at 9:04 p.m., on July 9. She was transported to Goshen Hospital. Barry Taylor, r 2 box 23, Syracuse, needed assistance on July 9 at 7:45 p.m. He fell from his bicycle and Complained of pain in his left arm, with cuts on the left side of his face and severe swelling. The EMS cleaned the wounds and Taylor’s mother said that she would take him to Goshen Hospital. John Wallace, 47, of Lansing, 111., felt dizzy at Turtle Bay on July 11. Syracuse EMS took his vitals and gave him oxygen. The Syracuse EMS was called out to a local golf course on July 12 to assist a passed out man. He was awakened and taken home shortly after 7:41 a.m. On July 12, at 5:13 p.m., the Syracuse EMS responded to SR 13 and CR 1200 N for a two vehicle accident. All persons refused treatment. Dave Kyle, 57, 202 S. 26th, Goshen, cut his third finger on July 13. It was cleaned and bandaged by the EMS and he was advised to have stitches at Goshen Hospital Catherine Babcock, 69, Lot #BS Greertfiaus Apartments, was suffemig from high blood pressure and transported to Goshen Hospital on July 13.
Milford EMS Three persons were injured in a one-car accident in Milford on Tuesday, July 8. All were transported to the Goshen Hospital emergency room. A 16-year-old girl complained of back pain and left foot injury, an 18-year-old woman suffered nose, right arm and knee injuries and a 23-year-old man suffered lacerations on his forehead and left knee. On Thursday, July 10, a Leesburg resident suffered a knee injury at her home. She was transported to the Goshen emergency room. Also on Thursday a young woman living near Maple Leaf Farms complained of nausea, dizziness and abdominal pain. She was transported to the Kosciusko Community Hospital emergency room. There have been rumors of several cases of whooping cough in the area. Dr. Floyd L. Rheinheimer’s office in Milford reported whooping cough is going around and Goshen Hospital has had several cases; however, Rheinheimer’s office has had no confirmed cases. Dr. Robert A. Craig’s office also reported they have received no confirmed cases. SAFETY CORKER WATER RECREATION Water recreation can be fun. Keep it free of mishaps by following these simple rules. Know how to swim or at least to float well enough to survive in water. Watch your step on docks, steep banks, and around pools to avoid slipping or falling into the water. Never swim alone and keep rescue equipment such as ropes, flotation devices, poles, etc., handy. Learn and follow safe boating rules. Make sure your craft is seaworthy. Never leave shore without a personal flotation device for each person aboard. STONE BUILDING COMING DOWN — Glenn Price Sr.. Milford, owner of the stone structure at the corner of SR 15 and Section Street, is tearing down the building. His son, Phil Price, is doing the demolition with his crews, between construction jobs. Phil Price is owner of Phil Price and Sons Masonry, Milford. The building was owned by Dr. William Price, uncle of Glenn Price and was at one time a veterinary clinic, also, a filling station. The building is over 62 years old. (Photo by Deb Fox)

Sarah Bryant May 22.1902-July 10,1980 Mrs. Sarah M. Bryant, 78, r 2 Pierceton, mother of Sherman Bryant, North Webster, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in Whitley County Memorial Hospital, Columbia City. She was a patient at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City. She was a resident of Kosciusko County most of her life. On May 22, 1902, in Adams County, she was born to George Frederick and Bertie (Snyder) Byerly. In 1922 she married Charles R. Bryant. He preceded her in death in May 1966. Mrs. Bryant was a member of the North Winona Church of the Brethren and the Monroe Township Extension Homemakers Club. Additional survivors include three sons, Eugene, Pierceton; Wendell, Pierceton; Wayne, Gatlinburg, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. George (Wava) Fraser, Hobart; Mrs. Lewis (Hazel) Burger, Peoria, Ill.; three brothers, Eldred, Peoria, Ill.; Arthur. Texas; and Noble, Quincy. 111. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in the North Winona Church of the Brethren. Rev. Lester Young officiated and burial was in Hillcrest cemetery, Pierceton. Don Foltz Dec. 28,1901 — July 9,1980 Don Foltz, 78, 131 South Oakland St., Mishawaka, father of Edward Foltz, Leesburg, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, in his home. He had been failing in health for the past month. Foltz was a retired Nappanee post office employee. He was born on December 28. 1901, in Findlay, Ohio, and resided at Mishawaka since moving from Nappanee 13 years ago. His wife, the former Lola Holloway, preceded him in death on June 27,1975. Additional survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert Veal, Mishawaka, and Mrs. Noel George, Nappanee; two brothers, Clyde Foltz, Warsaw, Bud Foltz, Elkhart; and three sisters, Mrs. Edith Lafollette, Mrs. Audrey Gearhart, both of Warsaw and Mrs. Arvada Wiest, Bristol. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. in the Warner Funeral Home, Osceola. Rev. Robert Fields, Lafayette, officiated and burial was in Nicholas cemetery, Akron. Gibson F. Scott Jan. 10,1917 —July 14,1980 Gibson F. Scott, 63, r 1 Nappanee, died in his home Monday, July 14, at 4:30 p.m. of an apparent heart attack. He is the nephew of the late George “Duke” Scott and second cousin of the late Mrs. Harry (Gwen) Martin and Trella Caris, all of Milford. He was born in Warsaw on January 10,1917, to Fred M. and Muriel (Gibson) Scott. On March 29, 1942, he married the former

Marion Null in Wakarusa. She survives. Scott is a World War II veteran, and was a member of the Nappanee American Legion and the Nappanee First Presbyterian Church. He owned and managed Nappanee Ready-Mix for 24 years until his retirement in 1979. Additional survivors include his son, Douglas R., r 3 Nappanee. One sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Wright-Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Rev. Terry Tyler, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Violett cemetery, Goshen. Friends may call from 2-5 and 7-9 today, (Wednesday) in the funeral home. Dewey Housouer July 31, 1926-July 11,1980 Dewey E. Housouer, 54, r 5 Syracuse, died at 3:24 p.m. Friday, July 11, in South Bend Memorial hospital, following open heart surgery. He was born on July 31, 1926, near Nappanee to Clyde and Pearl (Hively) Housouer. On February 22,1945, he married the former Thelma Foudy. His parents and wife survive. For the past 23 years he had lived at Dewart Lake. He was a rural mail carrier out of Nappanee. He was also a realtor and a member of the North Webster Church of God. In addition to his parents and wife, other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Jolene) Holderread, r 1 Milford; two sons, David, r 5 Syracuse and Jeffery, Rochester; two grandchildren; and one brother, James, Dallas, Texas. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, in the North Webster Church of God. Rev. Brice Casey and Carl Shearer, pastor of the Milford Christian Church, officiated.

Burial was in the Milford cemetery. Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, was in charge of arrangements. Harry Traster Former Milford resident, Harry Traster, 60, Fort Smith, Ark., died on March 12, 1980, following a massive coronary attack. He is the stepson of Mrs. Charlene Woolson, Milford. He was an Air Force disabled veteran of World War II and was a member of the Milford Christian Church. During World War II he was a parachuter for the Air Force and was injured during a parachute jump. Also surviving is a brother Fern, DeMotte. He was buried in the National cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark. Harold Schang Nov. 13,1896-July 10. 1980 Harold E. Schang, 83, 614 East Indiana Ave., South Bend, father of Clifton Schang, Leesburg, died Thursday, July 10, at 1:10 a.m. in South Bend Memorial Hospital. He was bom on November 13, 1896, to Jacob and Henrietta (Wharton) Schang and was a native of South Bend. He was a United States Army veteran of World War I and a retired employee of Slick’s Laundry in South Bend. On April 11, 1923, he married the former Violet Thew in Alberta, Canada. She survives. Additional survivors include one son, Lyle Schang, Granger; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Helen Bartol, North Liberty. Graveside rites were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, in Highland cemetery, South Bend. Rev. William D. Dorwort C.S.C., of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, officiated.
