Coin collectors' club started
A coin collector’s club is beginning in Syracuse. They meet once a month at the Lakeland Youth Center for coin auctioning, programs, movies and seminars. “It’s an ideal way to gain a lot of experience and gain upon others’ experience,” says Larry Cook who’s trying to help organize the group. He believes there are lots of collectors in the area. Through an organized group, he feels everyone, regardless of age or experience, can further their knowledge in coins and fellowship with a common interest. Each meeting is open to the public with membership encouraged in all age groups. The first meeting was in May with 18 people present. Then on Monday, July 1, at 7 p.m., another meeting was held at the Lakeland Youth Center. Approximately 18 gathered with a coin auction led by Jerry Lambert and an election of officers. Although there will be a membership fee it will be nominal. The cost will not be set until official organization takes place. “At least 50 people had expressed an interest by the end of June. They’re all ages, some are in their early teens and some are senior citizens with, of course, those in between,” said Cook. The business part of the meetings are planned tb be short, with most of the time devoted to auctions. At the auctions, people can buy, sell and trade coins.
Members will be encouraged to display their wares. “Stamp collectors and other hobbyists are also welcome.
