between company and workers: With some 4,000 workers on strike, who make about $lO per hour (all fringes included, and this figure is probably low) the company stands to save $40,000 per hour, or $320,000 per day or $1,600,000 per week. 4 With no new homes being built and no new industrial incentives, is there any wonder NIPSCo is not eager to settle the strike? Their profit picture will soon rival that of the Mobil Oil Co. ANYONE FOR picking some delicious white cherries? They're all yours. Call 658-4111. Our town is 'looking up'
Dear Editor, Please pass my compliments to the hard-working Syracuse Park Board. They are dedicated and determined to become an active and productive board. The addition to the plantings at the city park are appreciated by all who pass that way.
Thunks to Silver Luke fund raisers
Dear Editor: On behalf of South Central Kosciusko EMS, Inc., I would like to thank everyone who worked at, donated items and food to and attended our annual EMS dinner during Silver Lake Days 1980. Without this participation by those forementioned, we would certainly not have an EMS organization in our area. I would also like to congratulate Katrena Lotz on her coronation as the “Miss Silver Lake Days Queen” and thank each and every girl for her
Beyond the cull of duty
Dear Editor: While in the process of moving from one house to another I ran into correspondence from an old friend. We had not contacted each other since 1936 — 44 years ago. I decided to make contact with this old friend, if I could, so I sent a post card to the 44-year-old address, Pottsville, N.Y. Within a week I had a letter from a man I had never heard of. H advised me Pottsville, N.Y., had not had postal service for over 33 years, having been absorbed into the East Aurora. N.Y., system at that time. However, he told me the

mailmen on the routes asked all the people who had the same last name if they knew the person I had addressed my card to. The man writing to me proved to be a cousin of my friend and eventually my friend of Ashville, N.C., contacted me. I call this a miracle and work on the part of the postal system beyond the call of duty. I also call it amusing considering in many small towns you can send a letter to a person in the same town and if the address is not exactly right it will be returned stamped, addressee unknown — Margaret Nichols

s BO,OOO goal set for Milford building
> The Milford Area Development (MAD) Board of Directors has set a goal of SBO,OOO to build the new Milford Community Building. Construction will begin next week and volunteer labor is needed. The board met Tuesday evening, July 1. The old hotel was torn down last week and the new community building will be built on the site, located on Main Street. At first, it was planned not to dig out the basement of the old hotel, but to fill it with sand and cover it over. However, during the demolition, a large amount pf debris and decayable material fell into the basement which necessitated digging the basement out. This proved to be fortunate, though, since it was discovered that three-fdurths of the original stone foundation is still useable. This will cut construction costs of the community building. Construction for the new building will begin next week The footer will be put in next week and the ground will be readied to pour the floor The following week, the floor will be poured and putting up the block walls will begin. Persons interested in donating their labor and tools may contact Construction Coordinator Bill Stath at his home or Heritage Real Estate. Volunteer labor will help reduce construction costs. Letters will be sent out soon to Milford area residents. The

Carpet is usually manufactured in standard widths such as 12,15 or 20 feet, so this may mean a purchase of extra carpeting too. But, when you go buy it, give the people at the store your exact room measurements. A rough drawing of the room’s shape showing its irregularities ( if any) will be helpful too.
