Jesus Said ... "If any man will come after me. let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. This verse strikes right at the heart of our greatest problem in the Christian life and the church today. It is the matter of denying "SELF." SELF . . . demands attention and glory that belongs to JESUS. We refer to it as egotism. Call it whatever you may, it still stands between many dear souls and the victorious Christian life. SELF . . . insists on having its own way, often at the expense of the Will of God. Self winks at clear declarations and demands of the Bible that are there for our own good. SELF . . . hoards time for doing the things that please the flesh. This is why the alarm is not as important on Sunday as on other week days, the same kind of rationalization on Wednesdays would result in the loss of a job. Why can't we see the losses it brings when we cheat God out of time that is His? SELF . . . demonstrating its old nature, directs our attention to newspapers, magazines, and sometimes downright hurtful reading. All the while, there lies available to us the unerring Word of God. SELF . . .'often ignores the call to Christian stewardship of time, talent and money. In this fast economy, it is difficult to make the income cover the expenses. If we are not careful we will be trying to pay for the things we want with money that is "holy unto the Lord." SELF ... is the old nature, and as such, it can do nothing but sin. The new nature (II Cor. 5:17) given to every born again person cannot sin. It now becomes a matter of determining to which nature we will yield and obey. I will be praying for you that you will obey the very Person of Christ within you I
