Meals for Older Americans are served each day at the following locations: The Scout cabin at Crossen Park, Syracuse; the Poppy Days this week in Milford The following proclamation has been issued in honor of “Poppy Days” this Friday and Saturday: “Whereas, The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary have developed a traditional observance of the poppy as its Memorial flower and of Poppy Days during the month of May each year; and “Whereas, all proceeds from the annual sale will be used for the benefit of the veterans now hospitalized, needy war veterans and the orphans and widows of deceased veterans; and "Whereas, volunteer members of these organizations will be soliciting the support of all Hoosiers by asking all to ‘Wear a Poppy’ to symbolize ‘Honor the Dead by Helping the Living; ’ and “Now, therefore, I, Jean Treesh, town board president, do hereby proclaim the period of May 16 through May 17, 1980, as Veterans Poppy Days in Milford.” Dawn Bertram, Robert Ray to wed July 26 Mr. and Mrs. Russell T. Bertram, r 1 Cromwell, announce the engagement of their daughter, Dawn K. to Robert L. Ray, Fort Wayne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ray, r 1 Laotto. The wedding will take place on Saturday, July 26, in the Sparta United Church of Christ, Kimmell. The bride is a West Noble graduate and her fiance is a graduate of Huntertown High School and International Business College. He is employed by the American Hoist Co., Fort Wayne.

The meeting was held in the Cardinal Center, Warsaw and Mrs. Coverstone is the art department chairman at Grace College, Winona Lake. She showed slides and gave a commentary of her recent trip to some of the world’s greatest art centers, where she led a group of fellow art lovers to Venice and Florence, Italy. Some of the great masters of Florence were Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci of the 16th century Renaissance period and Raphael who followed da Vinci and Michaelangelo. Mrs. Coverstone graduated with a bachelor of science in art education from Goshen College. Her graduate work was at Saint Francis College, Fort Wayne and she earned her master of art degree from Notre Dame in 1972.

Estep, worthy partron, presiding. Grand Chapter report was given by Gertrude Ritter, past grand representative of New Mexico Grand Chapter in Indiana, OES. The worthy matron announced her mother, Anna Estep, has been named a grand committee member for the heart fund in District 20. After a short business meeting the following announcements were made: June 2 — Practice at 7 p.m. June 4 — District Deputy visit July 3 — Inspection with Goshen and Syracuse at Goshen “Happy Birthday’’.was sung to the worthy matron and associate matron, Cheryl Brunjes. The chapter room was decorated for Mother’s Day. A large basket of flowers was in the east and a greeting card with “Happy Mother’s Day” in the west. The dining room was decorated in keeping with May Day. May polls decorated the dining tables and a bouquet of yellow jonquils and blue candles were on the serving table. Jello dessert, crackers and coffee were served by the social committee, Julia Reed and Joan Green, assisted by Betty Scott and Lee McFarren. The next stated meeting will be June 4 at 7:30 p.m. Open house at Wiggs' home on May 24-25 Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiggs, Syracuse, will be hosting an open house Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, from 1-5 p.m. the Wiggs will be opening up their underground home to the public. The Wiggs’ underground home is located on the Syra-Web Road, one-eighth of a mile north of CR 800 N.

A total of 40 riders participated pn 38 horses during the Milford Lions Club's horse show last Saturday. Milford, on Black Walnut Dutchess Drama club presents skits at spring lunch The Wednesday Afternoon Club met in a Syracuse restaurant on May 7 for the annual spring luncheon. Mrs. Ralph Thornburg introduced five members of the Wawasee High School Drama Club who presented two scenes from two plays by Neil Simon. Brenda Iden presented Deb Bartow and Curt Clevenger in a scene from “Sweet Charity” and Steve Deck and Scot Karbach in a scene from “God’s Favorite.” Both performances were well done and well received by the members. Twenty-one members and one guest, Mrs. Lionel Bates, were present. Mrs. Vernon Brinkman, Mrs. Ralph Thornburg, Mrs. E. L. Fosbrink and Mrs. Eloise Frevert were hostesses. Lakeland Local Mr. and Mrs. Richard Coy and sons of Syracuse entertained Mrs. Coy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Plank and brother Larry, Syracuse and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Coy and daughters, Syracuse, for Mother’s Day dinner, Sunday, May 11. Mrs. Coy’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Corkey Wagner, New Paris, called later in the day. Taylors host Rekamemoh Club The Rekamemoh 4-H Club held its monthly meeting on April 23 in the home of Marcia and Melissa Taylor. The meeting was called to order by president Doreen Darr. The pledges to the flags were led by Ann Alford and Tammy Tranter. Marcia Taylor gave a demonstration on needlecraft and Cindy Nelson gave a demonstration on geology. The meeting was adjourned with recreation and refreshments following. The next meeting will be held May 19 in the home of Sara Cox.

On Sunday, May 11, she had Mother’s Day dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Brown, West Eden Shores, North Webster and on Monday and Tuesday she visited in the home of John Darr, Syracuse. A party was planned for Monday afternoon with old school mates, Mrs. Wilma Slusser and Mrs. Vera Greider, both of Syracuse. Lunch was served and the afternoon was spent visiting and remembering about Butterpark School. Mrs. Kern returned to Warsaw Tuesday evening. Webster Auxiliary plans for banquet The North Webster Legion Auxiliary Unit 253 will hold its annual mother and daughter banquet on Tuesday, May 20, beginning at 6:30 in the Legion hall. All new members are welcome. There will be a first nomination of officers. May 16 and 17 will be “Poppy Days.” Auxiliary members urge everyone to remember war veterans and wear a red poppy with pride.
