Mother of former Milford businessman killed in Goshen
Mrs. Clarence (Chloe Arvilla) Holderman, 87, 308 N. Second Street, Goshen, mother of former Milford businessman C. V. (“Tiny”) Holderman and Goshen grocer Everett Holderman, was killed Monday when she was crossing the street in Goshen. The C. V. Holdermans are well known in the Milford area. At one time they were summer residents of Waubee Lake. In the late 1950 s they owned and operated Tiny's Drive-in on SR 15 in Milford, later they owned and operated Lavon's Variety Store on Main Street. The Clarence Holdermans often visited the C. V. Holdermans at their Waubee Lake home and at their Milford businesses. Chloe Holderman was attempting to cross the street at Main and Pike, pulling a twowheeled grocery cart, when she was struck by a 1973 International semi cab driven by. Norman James Casteel, 63, 3600 Crocker Road, Twin Lakes, Mich. Casteel was driving west on Pike and attempted to turn north onto Main Street and did not see Mrs. Holderman. Mrs. Holderman was taken to the Goshen Hospital where she died at 9:30 a m. of a basal skull fracture. A native of the Nappanee area, the deceased was born on February 18, 1893. She had resided |n Goshen for 59 years, moving from Nappanee. On September 4, 1912, she married Clarence Frederick (“Fred") Holderman. Surviving with the husband and two sons, Everett and C. V., both of Goshen, are two other sons, Orres I , of South Bend and Merl F. of Wheaton, 1(1.; eight grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; three sisters.

Bertha Heagy Sept. 6.1897 — April 16,1980 Mrs. Bertha M. Heagy, 82, 414 West Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, mother of Mrs. Farrell (Virginia) Cain, Milford, died at 10;30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. She was admitted on Monday morning, April 14. She was bom on September 6, 1897, in Pierceton to Sanford and Irene (Pierce) Noble. In 1914 she married Emerson Clarie Heagy. He preceded her in death in 1934. Mrs. Heagy was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Progress Home Economic Club and Senior Citizens. She also was a Red Cross volunteer and a retired employee of Playton Products Co. Additional survivors include one son. Richard, Warsaw; another daughter. Mrs. Jack (Betty) Hetler, Warsaw; seven grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and one brother. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 19, at 10 a m. in the Titus Funeral Home. Rev. Ivan French officiated and burial was in Oakwood cemetery. Melvin Greider April 23. 1936 —April 16. 1980 Melvin Greider. 43, r 1 North Webster, who was known throughout the area as a minister and member of the Glory Barn, was pronounced dead on arrival at Kosciusko Community Hospital at 3.15 p.m.. Wednesday. April 16. He suffered an apparent heart attack. He was born jn North Webster on April 23. 1936, to Reginald and Eunice (Snoke) Greider He married the former Marybeth Pening on May 19. 1973. She survives. Greider managed a half-way house for alcohol and drug addicts at the Glory Bam. located southeast of North Webster in Noble County. He had served in the United States Army. In addition to his wife. Mrs. Marybeth Greider, Grand Rapids. Mich.; survivors include two daughters. Sundawn and Earlie Mist and two sons. Dirk and Elisha Nathaniel, all of Grand Rapids. Mich.; and his mother, Mrs. Eunice Greider. North Webster. Private graveside services were held Friday, April 18. at 5 p.m. in the Oak Grove cemetery.

Harrison Street, Syracuse, underwent major surgery on Tuesday in the Goshen Hospital. DOCTOR ORDERS JONES TO REST The doctor has order Gaylord Jones of Syracuse to rest. for three or four weeks following a short stay in the hospital. Jones was taken to the Goshen Hospital April 17 for what was thought to be a heart attack. However, doctors determined Jones had suffered muscle spasms around the heart instead of a heart attack. He was released a few days later. BARBARA HAY IN HOSPITAL Barbara Hay of Syracuse was admitted to the Elkhart Hospital on Wednesday, April 16. She is in room 4013. STANLEY CUSTER HOME Mr. and Mrs. Stan Custer of r 1 Milford have returned to their home Saturday from Rochester. Minn., where Mr. Custer underwent major surgery at the Rochester Methodist Hospital. It was incorrectly listed in this paper last week that Mr. Clister was at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He is continuing his recovery at home and will return to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in six to eight weeks for a check up. Syracuse EMS The Syracuse Emergency Medical Service Unit was busy last week answering seven calls. Max McCormick, 59, r 2 box 413 Syracuse, complained of pain in his left knee on Wednesday afternoon, April 16, The ambulance was dispatched to his home at 1:25 p.m. He was transported to Goshen Hospital. Fred Baumgartner, 95, 113 Boston St., Syracuse, suffered a possible stroke at 3:37 p.m., Wednesday and was transported to Goshen Hospital. Jessie Weingart, 77, 507 S. Harrison, fell on his hip, Thursday, April 17, at 6:40 p.m, and was taken by the ambulance crew to Goshen Hospital. The ambulance crews received a call at 11:21 p.m. on Thursday, when Gaylord Jones, 58, 34 N. Shore Drive, Syracuse complained of chest pains. He was transported to Goshen Hospital. On Saturday, April 19, the ambulance was called to the home of Pete Heckaman, 66, 182 North Shore Drive, at 10:44 a.m. and complained of congestion while breathing. He was transported to Elkhart Hospital.

Boston St., Syracuse, was taken to Elkhart Hospital, Sunday, April 20, at 7:36 p.m. Kuhn passed out and fell from a chair. He sustained a lump on top of his head from the fall.
