burgh and Cincinnati again in the National? Every year forecasters tend to favor last year’s winners. Last year this time everyone was picking the Yankees and Kansas City to repeat (though a few picked California). Both missed in 1979. Likewise, the Phillies and Dodgers were favorites last year this time in the National. They finished fourth and third, 14 and 11 */j games out, in 1979. So, will 1980 produce the same four-team turnover? Chances are better than 5050 three out of 1979’s four winners won’t repeat. In the National. Los Angeles should come back strongly. So might Philadelphia. Montreal is also a good bet, as is Houston, to take their divisions. In the American the Yankees should be stronger, but that American East division is tough to call. Six of its seven teams finished above .500 last year. And any of, five could conceivably eke out a win there this year. Milwaukee came closest to the O’s last year and Boston, New York or Detroit are con tenders. Kansas City will be hoping to come back this year and both Texas and Minnesota have hopes to unseat the Angels. , ,

Murphy Medical Center may become elderly housing unit

The city of Warsaw will have to decide whether or not it will have a future 58-unit elderly housing complex near the old Murphy Medical Center. A factor in the decision may be the lack of 44 parking spaces. Earl Evans, Joan Murphy and ROn Gilbert, Warsaw Housing Authority board members, discussed the proposed use of the never completed addition to the Murphy Medical Center for elderly housing with Robert Murphy, special projects coordinator The go-ahead was given to submit the proposal to the Warsaw Common Council and Warsaw Plan Commission. Mayor P. E. (Mike) Hodges stated at a meeting on March 25, he was upset about the parking facilities proposed. This proposal would allow 1.3 parking spaces for each apartment unit. A new zoning ordinance for the city, not yet passed, will require two parking spaces per dwelling unit. This is based on the maximum number of units in the establishment. , Hodges remarked he did not want to be blamed the way for-

mer Mayor H. Dale Tucker was in the parking at the Retired Tigers complex. In-The project of apartments near Murphy Medical Center, the city has acquired property enabling for 86 parking spaces for 58 apartments. The 86 parking spots are comprised of 62 spaces at the comer of Winona Ave., and Buffalo St., and 24 spaces at the south end of South Lake Street. Murphy said other spaces can be obtained from Mrs. Hazel Murphy. However the funds are not available. Murphy stated he talked with Jack Burns. element requiring an April 30 deadline for the proposal to be submitted to the Housing and Urban Development. If it had been tabled, it would not have been considered for another year due to monetary issues. There is a waiting list of 80 to 100 elderly persons for the complex and the proposed complex will have 58 apartment units at the site located at Buffalo and West Winona in Warsaw. The proposal included razing the present hospital building and construction of new units at the nearby site where construction has been started for the new addition to Murphy Medical Center. The units are expected to be the same as the units at “Retired Tigers" on West Main St., Warsaw.
