Mrs. Howard Haab dies after extended illness
Dec. 19,1926 — Feb. 17,1980, Mrs. Howard (Joan R.) Haab, 53, r 2 Milford, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at her home, following complications of a kidney disease. She was a retired Lakeland School Corporation teacher and had taught six years in Milford. She was born on December 19, 1926, to Ross and Edith (Gardner) Clem, in Anderson. On August 19, 1948, she married Howard (Hop) Haab. He survives. Mrs. Haab was a member of Lester I. Urshel Jan. 4,1908 —Feb. 17,1980 Lester E. Urshel, 72, resident of the Pleasant View Country Village, Wabash and father of Syracuse resident, Mrs. Fred (Ann Elaine) Hapner, died Sunday, Feb. 17, in his home at 3 a.m. He had moved to Wabash from North Manchester three years ago. Born January 4, 1908, in Huntington County, Urschel was the son of Daniel H. and Emma Ann (Gemmer) Urschel. He married* Vera Frantz on September 26, 1942; she died December 1,1961. A member of the Nazarene Church at North Manchester, Urschel had been a Manchester School System custodian for 20 years and had been associated with the Boy Scouts for mol® than 25 years. .—/ Also surviving are a son, Kent F. Urschel, Greenfield; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Beata) Wible, North Webster, Mrs. Louise Cam, North Manchester; and two brothers, Lamoine Urschel, Chicago, 111., and Arden Urschel, North Manchester. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Bender Funeral Home, North Manchester. Pastor David Whittleberry will officiate; burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery

Additional survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Eldon (Janet “Susie”) Chupp, Milford; two sons, Dana, Columbia City and William, at home ; her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Clem, Anderson; and one brother, Dr. Bill D. Clem, Gates Mills, Ohio; and two grandchildren. One son, Jay, proceeded her in death in 1974. Funeral services were conducted today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Milford United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Fulp officiated and burial was in the Milford cemetery. Mishler Funeral Home, Milford, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials to Mrs. Haab may be made to the Indiana Kidney Foundation. Frances A. Park Jan. 6,1919—Feb. 18,1980 Mrs. Charles E. (Frances A.) Park, 61,514 South McClellan St., Warsaw, stepmother of Ronnie Allen Parks, Leesburg, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. She has been failing in health the past year. She was born on January 6, 1919, at Pierceton to Rufus and Mae (Vanscoy) Morrison. Her first marriage was to Woodrow Palmer. On July 31, 1970, she married Charles E. Park. He survives. Mrs. Park was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the Kosciusko County Senior Citizens organization and the Warsaw Wesleyan Church. Additional survivors include two sons, Larry W. Palmer, Fort Wayne, Richard D. Palmer, Claypool; one daughter, Mrs. Dallas (Joyce) Campbell, Warsaw; one stepson, Paul Edward Park, Doraville, Ga.,;
nine grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and one stepgrandchild. Funeral servies were conducted today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. in the Titus Funeral Home. Rev. James Hughes and Rev. Dwight officiated. Burial was in the Hillcrest cemetery, Pierceton. Elmer G. Wood Oct. 20,1906 —Feb. 15,1980 Elmer G. Woods, 73, Burket, father of Mrs. Junior (Maxine) Goon, Leesburg, died at 11:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in Kosciusko Community Hospital. He had been failing in health for about one year. He was born in Culver on October 20,71906, to Lemuel and Rosetta (Jefferies) Woods. On March 10, 1924, he married the former Harriet Carey in Warsaw. She survives. Woods was the owner of Woods and Sons Trucking Co., and had lived most of his life at Burket. since January 18. She had been ill for two months. A former Syracuse resident, Mrs. Ruple was born October 10, 1918, to Albert and Jessie (Wagner) Hershberger in Elkhart. She married Donald L. Ruple August 30, 1941, in Bryan, Ohio. Her husband survives her. She and her husband operated the Hastings Store in Hastings for a number of years in the late 19405. Mrs. Ruple was a member of the Maplecrest Country Club Ladies Golf Association and the Goshen Duplicate Bridge Club. She was also a supporter of the Elkhart County Humane Society and had been employed by Western Rubber Company. Besides her husband, survivors include her stepmother, Mrs. Albert Hershberger, Goshen; a stepsister, Mrs. Paul (Mary Jane) Lantz, Syracuse; and a stepbrother, William Stewart, New Troy, Mich. Friends may call at the Blocker-Harris Fifth Street Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home. Rev. Charles Lindsay, a retired Presbyterian minister, will officiate. Burial will be in the Violett Cemetery. Memorials to Mrs. Ruple may be made to the Elkhart County Cancer Society.

BLANCHE THORNBURG IN GOSHEN HOSPITAL Ralph Thornburg, a Syracuse druggist, was called home from Phoenix, Ariz,, where he was vacationing, due to the illness of his mother, Blanche Thornburg, a long-time Syracuse resident. Mrs. Thornburg was admitted to the Goshen Hospital Monday, Feb. 18, after suffering from a stroke. Lehman. 17, r 1 Milford, is listed in fair condition in Goshen hospital following a two car collision around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. She suffered multiple fractures of the upper and lower left arm. along with faciaKlacerations and fractures. The collision.occurred on CR 1300 N, approximately one mile east of Old SR 15. Kosciusko County Police Officer Michael Hobbs reports Rehman was traveling west on CR 1300 N and lost control of her auto on ice. travled 75-100 feet, striking an east bound feed truck operated by Donald H. Beer. Jr., 24. r 1 Milford. Beer told police he saw the auto out of control and slowed to five miles per hour and was going off the road to avoid the accident when the Lehman auto hit the truck. After impact the truck carried the car for a short distance. Beer was driving a truck owned by Eastbrook Farms, r 1 Milford. Damage to the bulk feed truck was listed at 12,000 and the Lehman auto, owned by George Lehman, r 1 Milford, was listed as a total loss at S9OO. Police stated Lehman was traveling at an unreasonable speed for the conditions of the road. There was no citation given. Also investigating the accident was State Trooper Fred Martin. IN MEMORIAM In loving memory of our son, Donald Dean Mast who passed away from us on February 21,1979. Instead of a birthday party, we have only memories. I. We know you are with God. But we miss you very much. Donald and Donna Mast Milford EMS Seven runs were made during the past week by members of the Milford Emergency Medical Services unit. On February 11 a man was transported with a hand injury. On Tuesday, Feb. 12, a woman was transported with hip pains suffered in a fall at her home. A woman with faintness was transported from Leesburg to Kosciusko Community Hospital on Thursday. A boy was transported Friday from the Leesburg playground to KCH with a leg injury. An overdose patient was transported to Goshen Hospital on Monday. A 17-year-old girl was transported to Goshen Hospital on February 19 with multiple injuries suffered in an auto accident. Also on February 19 a man was taken to Goshen suffereing with lower abdominal pain.
