Cain, r 2 Milford, celebrated their 40th anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 20. Their daughters, Mrs. Orris Flannery and Mrs. David Gardonio, hosted the open house in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Zimmerman, Milford. Approximately 100 relatives and friends attended the event.

Members of the American Legion Auxiliary 223 heard Betty Broekers, Knightstown Home Chairman, announce that the / zZt x •• VF HONORED POSTHUMOUSLY — Miss Kay Ferverda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ferverda of North Webster was named “Indiana Distinguished Junior Holstein Member,” posthumously. She was one of three winners. A plaque and SSO were presented to her family at the State Holstein Convention in Indianapolis on January 25. The money was placed in a memorial fund which has been set up in her honor. Kay was very active in 4-H and showing registered Holsteins with her family meant much to her. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

home now has openings for 47 children. The Legion met Tuesday evening, Jan. 22. Mrs. Broekers told the group that if there are any veterans' children in the community in need of a home where they will be given individual attention, they should contact her personally to help the children make an application for the home. Girls’ State selections were made. They are Amy Reed, delegate; Susan Naab, first alternate; and Andrea Steffen, second alternate. Energy Chairman Alice Kline read a paper that suggested the town become interested in the project of recycling centers. Some members expressed interest but felt other clubs and organizations would also have to become involved for the project to be successful. A committee was appointed for the Legion birthday party to be held in March. The committee members are Chairman, Mary Jane Deprdorf; and members, Lucy Kroh, Betty Dust, Margaret Nichols and Elaine Darr. ' Rowena Brewer announced that the family of Blanche Kline will host an open house at the Wawasee Bowling Alley Restaurant from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on February 24. All members of the Auxiliary are invited to attend to help a “very young” 90-year-old Mrs. Kline celebrate her birthday. The refreshment committee was Lois Brown, Louise Crow, and Maxine Coleman.
Happy Bachelors elect officers The Milford Senior Happy Bachelors 4-H Club met in the home of Doug, Greg and Kathy Weisser of r 1 Milford on Monday night, Jan. 28. An election of officers was held and follows; President — Doug Weisser Vice president — Kevin Harney Secretary — Greg Weisser Treasurer — Randy Beer Reporter — Jill Haab Health and safety — Phil Dowty and Jon Haab Recreation — Bill Haab and Kathy Weisser Project books, puts and ribbons were passed out by Ted Davis. The next meeting will be held at Randy and Rene Beer’s house on February 25 at 7:30 p.m. Enrollment cards must be taken to this meeting. Tri-County to be site of next Aububon meeting The Tippecanoe Audubon Society will be hiking in the TriCounty Fish and Wildlife area near North Webster on February 3. Persons can meet at 1:45 p.m. at the Counting House Bank Mall in Warsaw for car pooling; or join the group at 2:15 p.m. at the flowing well south of North Webster. A tour of an underground house will also be included in the day’s activities. The hike will include a study of the birds which spend the winter in this part of Indiana. The group will hike through the various habitats in the Tri-County area and will study the plants and trees which provide food and shelter for wildlife during cold weather. Audubon field trips are held the first Sunday of each month in all kinds of weather, so come prepared to be outdoors. Any interested persons are welcome to participate in the field trips. Lakeland Local Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Enoch have returned to their home on r 2 Syracuse from a five-week vacation. They visited their son. Dr. J. P. Peterson and family in Salt Lake City over the holidays and attended the Miami and Atlanta gift and furniture shows. To prevent spattering... sprinkle a little salt into the frying pan.

NORTH WEBSTER GETS NEW AMBULANCE — North Webster’s new ambulance went into service Tuesday, Jan. 22. The old ambulance will be kept as a back up unit. According to Emergency Medical Service Captain Gary Hill, the new ambulance is the first of its kind in the county. Hill said this model was chosen because it will be cheaper to replace. When worn out, only the chassis will need to be replaced. The cabin can be lifted off and plhced on a new chassis.
