MILLERS SPE AK TO KIW AXI A.XS — John and Barbara Miller of Dewart Lake spoke to the Wawasee Kiwanis Club at a rec ent meeting. The Millers are regular judges and scorers for the American Water Ski Association. They explained judge rating and tournament set-up. Judgeships started for the Millers in a 196 X Wolfe Lake Tournament when they were assisting judges. It takes three to four years of assisting, another four to five years to become a regular judge and another five to eight years to become a senior judge. The Millers stated that scorers follow the same regimen. Judges have to be competent in the three tournament contests: Slalom, trick and jumping. They oversee all competition sometimes non-stop from sunrise to sunset. The Millers receive no pay for their contributions, however, they stated that the relaxation, enjoyment, the people they meet are far more of a reward than money provides. They have been bestowed with the highest Indiana State Ski (’tab award, the Rollie Williams Memorial Award, given for sportsmanship and leadership. They have also been honored to judge for regional and national tournaments. Shown with Mr. and Mrs. Miller is Jack Oswald, left.
