Wawasee stunned over 74-54 loss to Fairfield
By STEVE PEACH The Wawasee Warriors were not too pleased by their play last Saturday night as they lost to Fairfield 74-54. The Warriors began the game in foul trouble and nothing seemed to go well for them throughout the rest of the game Fairfield, on the other handbook advantage of their lucky tweaks and consumed an early lead in which they were to keep and go into the half with a nfargin over Wawasee. There seamed to be some question on the number of fouls that the Warriors collected

Wawasee J V wrestlers pin defeat on Warsaw
The Wawasee Warriors junior varsity wrestling team defeated the Warsaw Tigers understudies in a meet Tuesday at Wawasee. The meet had an unusual twist as all matches ended in pins. Chris Beezley and Alan Sherman started the Warriors off well as both recorded first period pins. These victories were followed by three Tiger victories and the young Warriors trailed 24-18. Lightning then struck the Tigers as Warrior sophomore John Stuckman and freshmen Joel Bales. Mark Zimmerman and Bob Greene all pinned their opponents. The final score of the meet was 42-30.
Friday Mixed, Little People win Women's tournament
The annual local tournament of the Lakeland Women s Bowling Association was held the week of November 12 through November 18 at the Wawasee Bowl. Winners of the 10th tournament were: Team event, a make-up team. Friday Mixed, who rolled a 2,803 handicap in the series. The Little People Shoppe had a scratch series of 2,437. Low in the money was 2,614. The doubles’ event was won by Lura Hansen and Julie Hickman with a handicap series of 1,171; the ladies will receive the scratch trophies for their score of 1,057. Handicap trophies will be presented to Betty Swihart and Monica Lambright for their score of 1,169. Low in the money was 1.060. Hot shot winners ?- The Wawasee Kiwanis second annual “Hot Shot” contest concluded Saturday night, Dec. 8, at Wawasee High School. During halftime the finalist received recognition ribbons for first, second and third places in grades two through eight, Wawasee Kiwanians refereed led by Doug Hahn of Syracuse. Winners are as follows : Second grade — Cuong Reed, first; David Schmahl, second, and Jimmy Brickey, third Third grade — Matt Dick, first; Derek Kennedy, second; and Brad Gerstner, third Fourth grade — Brian Rensberger. first; Jeff Galloway, second; and Dan O’Haver, third Fifth grade — Darin Atwood, first; Mark Mast, second; and Todd Roberts, third Sixth grade — Jeff Young, first; Jeff Taylor, second; and Craig Cobbum. third Seventh grade — Doug Gerstner, first; Lori Hepler, second; and Amy Clouse, third Eighth grade — Dick Doll, first; Dave Roberts, second; and Scott Badskey, third Winners were those compiling the most points from baskets made, shot from various positions on the half court. Area girl recognized at Adrian Students participating in football, golf, cross country, field hockey and volleyball at Adrian College, Adrian, Mteh., in 1979 were honored at an annual banquet held recently on campus. Among those honored was Barbara Brouwer, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Lester (Jay) Brouwer. S. Front St., Syracuse, a senior. She participated in volleyball and is majoring in mathematics and physical education.

Singles and all events, handicap, was won by Nancy Geil with scores of 627 and 1,716. On the scratch side Lura Hansen will receive a trophy for her all events of 1,572 and Lilly Hawn for her 529. Low in the money for singles was 532 and for all events 1,586. Prize monies will be distributed within the next two weeks and trophies will be presented at the annual meeting in March to all winners, according to an announcement made by President Barbara Miller and Secretary-Treasurer Kathryn Knisley. 13 girls on basketball team at Syracuse This year 13 girls have signed up to play basketball on the Syracuse sixth grade girls team. Mrs. Jim Alford coaches the team which will have games with the girls teams at Milford and North Webster. Interest has grown in girls basketball during the past few years. More girls are playing basketball at a younger age. Basic skills are taught in elementary physical education classes and many girls are attending summer basketball camps. Wawasee girls head coach Jim Webster conducts a summer basketball clinic for all girls who are interested in improving their skills and knowledge of basketball. All girls who want to be future players in the Wawasee girls basketball program should take advantage of these opportunities to develop the basic skills necessary. WHS to have open gym Wawasee High School will be offering an open gym program during the holiday season for recent Wawasee High School graduates and students. The gym and facilities will be open to those who wish to work out their anxiety during the Christmas season. The dates and times available will be as follows: December 26, 27, 28 — 6 to 8 p.m. January 2 and 3 — 6 to 8 p.m. All those attending will be asked to register each day. The new physical education building will be used for this program. The northwest lobby doors will serve as the only entrance.

Wawasee to play Northridge in Holiday Tourney Friday
Game times for the Four-Way Holiday Basketball Tourney at West Noble High School will be 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21 and Saturday. Dec. 22. Participating in the tourney along Syracuse eagers defeat Warsaw The Syracuse Yellow Jackets eighth grade basketball team defeated the Warsaw Tigers last Thursday on the loser’s home court. The Yellow Jackets jumped off to an 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and led all the way through the contest to win 36-33. Jon Vitaniemi again provided the scoring punch for Syracuse as he scored 18 points. Vitaniemi was hot from the field sinking 8 of 17 field goal attempts for a 47 per cent shooting average. The Yellow Jackets had scoring balance in the game as six players put the ball through the net. The difference in the game occurred at the free throw line as the Yellow Jackets hit four while the Tigers could sink only one of ten attempts. The win evened the Syracuse eighth graders record at 3-3. The Syracuse seventh grade team lost to the Tigers 50-12. The Syracuse teams will return to action following Christmas vacation with games at Nappanee Tuesday. Jan. 8 at 6 p.m.
with West Noble and Wawasee are Northridge and Whitko. Tickets will be sold at the door, only for each session. Season tickets will be sold at the .Wawasee High School athletic office on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 20 and 21 for $3 from 8 a m. to 3 p.m. The session tickets will cost $2. Wawasee will be playing Northridge during game two on Friday evening. West Noble and Whitko will be starting the tourney off at 7 p.m. On Saturday night the 7 p.m. game will be the consolation game and the 8:30 p.m. game will be the championshipgame. Fan buses will be leaving Milford and North Webster at 6:15 p.m. and Syracuse at 6:30 p.m. both evenings. Persons riding the buses are asked to purchase a ticket and sign up at the high school or junior high school. A ticket is needed to ride the bus. The cost of bus tickets is 50 cents. '

Syracuse 6th grade undefeated The Syracuse Junior High sixth grade boys’ basketball teams are off to a flying start as both “A” and “B” teams are undefeated after three games. Coach Tom Jones' team have outscored the opponents 164-85 as all 17 boys on the teams have played each night and nine have scored in each game. The A team is led by Brad Traviolia and Dave Kistler as the two boys have combined to score 68 points. Tom Prickett. Rod Aaron and, Lance Lantz have led the team in rebounding. The B team has outscored their opponents 60 to 27 in three games. Nine out of 11 of the boys who have played on the B team have, scored The teams will resume action after vacation with a home game January 8 at 4:15 pm against New Paris. On January 18 the teams will have an intrasquad game during the half times of the Wawasee-Goshen game.
