Warsaw, were guest speakers for Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, North Webster, on Monday, Dec. 10. The kinds of equipment used in skiing were shown and described for the Kiwanians. The speakers pointed out that cross country skis are narrower and longer than the type used in downhill skiing. They explained that cross country skiing is now being called ski touring. This type of skiing is adapted to any area where there are parks, woods, golf courses, or even in backyards. Five inches or more of snow on the ground is recommended for best results in ski touring. They showed the type of boots used in ski touring and illustrated how they are attached to the ski. The best type of clothing for ski touring was shown and described. The program was concluded by a demonstration of the techniques used in handling the equipment for ski touring. Lakeland President Phil Hoy presided for the Kiwanis meeting and the ski authorities were introduced by President Elect James Hermann.

Syracuse man robbed, beaten A Syracuse man suffered severe lacerations to his face and a possible broken jaw when he was robbed and beaten near his home on the east side of Lake WawaseeSunday night, Dec. 9. Terry Lee Davis, 25, Enchanted Hills, r 1 Cromwell, was returning to his mobile home from a neighbor’s when he was attacked at 6:15 p.m The attack, which started with the assailant hitting Davis on the head and knocking him to the ground, ended with the attacker fleeing with Davis’ wallet which contained approximately SSO in pash. After the assailant fled. Davis was taken to the Syracuse Police Department. The Syracuse EMS transported him to Goshen Hospital for treatment. Upon release from the hospital, Davis returned to the scene with County Police. However, the police were unable to find the suspect. Syracuse collecting soup labels Syracuse Elementary Schbol has begun its fifth year collecting Campbell soup labels. The labels will be used for free audio visual equipment and recreational equipment for the school. Robert Hamman, principal, asks that anyone using the product tear off the labels and send them to the school. Jay Rhodes entertains 4-H club By STEVE CROUCH The Chain-O-Lakes 4-H meeting was held in the home of Jay Rhodes. The pledge of allegiance was led by Christopher Grover and the 4-H pledge was led by Guy Grover. Christmas songs were led by Brian Rhodes. A decision was reached that the members of the club would bake Christmas cookies for a nursing home. The meeting closed with members opening Christmas presents. The next meeting of the Chain-O-Lakes 4-H Club will be announced ata later time.
