The party was held in the basement at North Webster United Methodist Church. — o — EVERYONE IS putting up their Christmas trees. Ours has yet to be found. It’s somewhere in a box, at least it always has been. Last year we only put up the top half of the tree because all seven foot of it was too much for our small house. Putting up the top half of an artifical Christmas tree doesn’t sound like such a big deal — well it was. The way the center pole goes together caused the tree to first turn out taller than we wanted, then shorter. We finally settled for shorter. Now everything was out of balance, looked out of proportion and the whole thing was top heavy. There were way too many ornaments for only half a tree and a big argument ensued over what should go where and why. Someone suggested if we put enough ornaments on it no one would notice how crummy the tree really looked. Three hours, four plates of cookies and a gallon of hot chocolate later the ornament camouflage idea was sounding better and better. Friends, we refused to give up and there it stood. That tree was tied to the wall from two different directions; the limbs were sagging with ornaments; and half the little twinkle lights wouldn’t work. The only problem we had once the tree was tied in place was the artificial red velvet bird we put on top (someone ran over the angel with a scooter years ago) kept falling off. We say it fell off, our son insists he saw it jump. Till next week...
