SPIRIT IN A CAN — Hie Wawasee High School spirit seems to be in a garbage can! That’s correct, a green garbage can complete with gold lid. Above Warrior fan Curt Clevenger, who appears to be in charge of the garbage can, is shown with the lid off as he leads the students in their yell. Even the cheerleaders respect the can and yell when the lid is off. When the lid is on all must remain quiet.

Freshman wrestlers rally to defeat Brookdale
The Wawasee freshman wrestling team opened its season in fine fashion Tuesday "by defeating visiting Elkhart Brookdale 38-33. The first meet held in Wawasee’s new wrestling facility drew cheers from the hometown crowd as the Warriors rallied to win the last three matches and earn the team victory. Mike Golden. Ken Turner and Eric Beer started the Warriors off with an early lead as they pinned their opponents. The reverse is true, and Diles should have known it. Basketball thrills & skills
Can a small man make it big in a wrorld where even a big man may seem small? Better yet, can a small man turn a perennial NBA “also-ran” into a championship contender? In the Midwest division the answer to both of these questions is “yes.” The Kansas City Kings, whose new-coach this year is Cotton Fitzlrp mo^s * have a rookie superstar who is long on ability although short in size for a basketball player. He’s a 6’l” guard, Phil Ford, and while “percentage playing” is what many players try for, Ford often has a better idea. The rookie is helping to prove that a basketball player’s biggest asset is not long legs but a sharp mind. Last season (77-78) the Kings finished in last place in the Midwest Division of the NBA. This year they will finish first, and Ford is their

Bend on November 17th? Clemson, down 10-0 at the half, stymied the Irish in the second half and won 16-10. That sent Clemson to the Peach Bowl. The wonder is that the Tigers didn't get a better Bowl bid. North Carolina-only 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference—was invited to the Gator. Clemson’s 8-2 record at selection time was much better, and Clemson had won a thriller at the last Gator Bowl, over Ohio State. Nevertheless, the Clemson-Baylor game in Atlanta’s Peach Bowl promises to be one of the better Bowl games. Baylor is a high-scoring team, and Clemson, after Alabama, has the nation’s best defense. The test will be interesting.
