With Winter Coming On It's Time To Talk About ENERGY SUPPLY, HEATING COSTS, METER READING ESTIMATED BILLS AND CONSERVATION

It won't be too long until winter rolls around again. Hopefully it won’t be another record breaker. However, we've been getting ready for it, doing our best to make sure you have enough energy to get through the upcoming cold weather.

Energy Supply Here at NIPSCO we've been preparing for your winter needs by stocking up on gas reserves, improving gas

Lower Temperatures, Higher Bills As you know, when the thermometer readings drop, heating bills rise, regardless of the fuel used. Energy costs will be higher this winter. Gas rates are going up due principally to. purchased gas costs. These costs are added to your charges through the purchased gas adjustments only when they have been authorized by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and approved by the Public Service Commission of Indiana. (NIPSCO does not realize one cent of profit from these purchased gas adjustments. Increased revenues resulting from them go directly to pipeline supply companies—on a dollar for dollar basis—to pay for the increased cost of natural gas.)

■ However, if you have natural gas heating in your home, you have the least expensive fuel available for this purpose in northern Indiana—the cleanest and most efficient, too.

Electric costs are also up, mainly because of a general increase in electric rates that went into effect in July. Increased fuel costs for power generation and higher costs for everything else needed to bring you reliable electric energy continue. These costs most likely will increase further—due to additional increases in the cost of purchased fuels—as the winter goes on.

supply and bringing more electric capacity on line. So, barring any unforeseen curtailment by our suppliers, mechanical problems or diversion of supply by the Federal government, we will be able to meet your gas and electric energy needs this winter, even if it matches the winter of 1977-1978. the coldest on record.

Bill Faying Assistance If NIPSCO winter service bills become a problem for you, we might be able to help. It’s most important however, to call or stop in at your local NIPSCO customer service office before the bill is due. It's possible we can find away to spread out your payments, and make it a little easier to settle up your account. Also, several Federal, state and local agencies are in a position to assume all or part of your utility payments if you qualify for their assistance. Equal Payment Plan One way to spread out your winter heating costs is to join NIPSCO’s Equal Payment Plan. You can start in

any month and the budget payment period ends with the May bill. Your estimated usage—based on past consumption —is divided into equal monthly payments. You receive a bill for the same amount each month.

Any difference between the actual amount used and the amount you are billed will be reflected in the May service bill. You will pay only for the energy used, based on actual meter readings. Interest is not paid on any credit balance that might accumulate during the early part of the budget year, nor is any interest charged for any debit balance that may be due at the end of the budget year.

In the second overtime, Bremen won the tip and had control of the ball for two minutes but was unable to score. The Trojans were also unable to score and the game remained tied at 35 all. Milford won the tip-off to begin the third overtime and Blackburn scored a basket and free throw giving the Trojans a 38-35 lead. Bremen then tied the game with a three-point play. At the horn, a Bremen player was fouled and, with no time showing on the clock, had a chance to win the game with a free throw. The player missed and the game went into the fourth extra period. In the next three minutes, Blackburn penetrated the Bremen defense for three straight baskets and Jerry Auer picked up five points. With 19 seconds to go, the lead was 47-44. Auer’s three-point play made the score 50-44 with 13 seconds left. Bremen scored the final basket making the final score 50-46.

Blackburn led all scorers with 20 points. Auer added 10. Weisser fired in seven; LeCount, six; Dick Doll, five; and Ron Schwartz, two. Weisser collected 17 rebounds. Blackburn collected nine and Schwartz got eight. Doll led the teams with six assists. Mike DaSantis led Bremen with 18 points. Last week the Milford Trojans defeated Central Noble 55-30 with all 15 players seeing action. Ten players scored. Auer fired in 12 points to lead the team. Blackburn added nine, and Seth Swihart and LeCount chipped in with seven points each. Doll, Weisser and Ryan Wuthrich had four each, and Red Vanlaningham and Greg Treesh scored two points each to round out the scoring. LeCount also had 10 rebounds. Doll had five steals and five assists. Milford’s seventh and eighth grade teams travel to Warsaw Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Meter Reading and Estimated Bills No one—particularly NlPSCO—likes estimated bills; but sometimes they are necessary because of circumstances beyond our control. MeterS at times are not read because of inclement weather, meter inside and customer not home, pets not confined, meters covered with snow and ice, gates locked, etc. If we cannot read your meter, we send an estimated bill. An estimated bill is actually computed from your past energy usage and it also includes changes in energy consumption based on weather conditions. It is not a figure picked out of the air. And you will pay only for the energy you use —no more, no less. The difference between a bill based on estimated usage and your actual usage will be adjusted on your next bill, once an actual meter reading has been obtained.
