THANKSGIVING - AN annual holiday observed on the fourth Thursday of November as a day of giving thanks and feasting. It commemorates the Pilgrims’ celebration of the good harvest of 1621. Thanksgiving is a great holiday! It focuses our minds on our blessings rather than on our problems. It makes the heart glad for what we have been given and takes our minds off the burdens we all have. Thanksgiving recognizes the giver as well as the gift. It keeps us on the positive side. In a life of plenty and prosperity we seem to take everything for granted. How appreciative we should be for our blessings and what a wonderful thing is a holiday which focuses our attention on them. Thanksgiving is therapy we all need to keep us cognizant of the blessings and the beauty of living. This year let’s set aside a few minutes of the holiday to sit alone and think of the many things for which we should be thankful — then this great holiday will have true meaning for us. We have so many things to be thankful for in the Milford community... If you don’t believe this number a paper from one to 100 and see if you can’t fill it . . . One of the things at the top of your list should be the fact you can read and write. Many people in this world can do neither. When you get up in the morning watch the sun come up. It’s beautiful! Some areas have so much smog, fog, etc. that you can’t see the sun. Look at the farm land around this part of the country. It’s rich and yields a bountiful harvest each year. As you eat dinner tonight think of the starving people in the Far East.
Pickwick Insurance is open

The agency opened October 15 and will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a m. to 4:30 p.m. for the remainder of 1979. Mrs. Slager said that after the first of the year
Is your family going to be home on Thursday for Thanksgiving? Be thankful. Say a special prayer for the families of the hostages in Iran. Be thankful that God has blessed this area and our nation. With the church, Jesus, our homes and health, friends and neighbors we could go on and on until our list reached 100 or more but space will not allow. We have a list at home, however, and urge all our readers to make one of their own. HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes to Harry Doty of Our Town. Mr. Doty will be 91 years young on November 28. His sister. Lulu Felkner, who is featured on our community corner page this week will be 94 on November 30. Doty is a third generation stonemason who passed his trade on to his son and grandson, making five generations in all — Alanzo, A. L.. Harry, Harry Dale and Kent. Something any man can be proud of in the largest sense of the word. —o— JUNIOR BUCHER will be celebrating his birthday on Thanksgiving Day this year. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stump will observe their wedding anniversary on November 23 and Roger Baumgartner will observe his birthday. f ■ Scott Lanier and Jim Brooks will each be a year older on November 25. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Om will observe their wedding anniversary.
the plans may include the office being opened five or 5 1 / 2 days a week. Also occupying the building on Thursdays is Attorney Steve Snyder. He formerly was at First Charter. The agency, which carries a full line of insurance, is located next to My Store in the building formerly occupied by Donna’s Beauty Shop. Popcorn will pop better if you leave it in the freezer for 24 hours before using. "Haste in every business brings failures." Herodotus
November 26 is the birthday of Devon Sorensen and the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Baumgartner. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Beer and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Beer were married on November 27. It is also the birthday of Ron Smith. Mark Sorensen, Jeff Hoerr and Eudora Hurd all share November 28 birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. James Beer were married on that date. —o— FORMER MILFORD resident Joseph L. Poynter, now retired and living in Franklin, called our attention to a feature article in the Sunday, Nov. 11, Indianapolis Star Magazine by Hughston E. Lower on Indiana’s Men of Valor. It noted that only 75 Indiana soldiers had received the coveted Medal of Honor, the nation's highest award for service to their country “above and beyond the call of duty.” 2nd Lt. Harry Michael was killed by a sniper he was stalking.

Wed., November 21,1979—THE MAIL-JOURNAL
While there were only 75, 62 of them were in years before World War I. Only seven of these gave the supreme sacrifice and gave their lives, the article stated, in noting, with photographs, their acts of heroism. Os these, two were Private William D. McGee, a friend of Poynter’s and Second Lt. Harry 3. Michael of Milford. Michael, a Milford High School graduate with the class of 1940 and a graduate of Purdue University, was the son of Ida Michael of r 1 Milford and the late Plomer Michael, and a brother of Mrs. Gordon (Thedia) Michael of Milford. The rest of the Indianapolis Star article follows: “In simultaneous but separate actions during mid-March, 1945, Pvt. William D. McGee of Indianapolis and 2d Lt. Harry J. Michael of Milford made the supreme sacrifice. “Pvt. McGee acted on his own initiative when his comrades became trapped in/ an enemy minefield near Mulheim, Germany. He entered the minefield, brought one of the injured to safety and had returned to rescue the second when he stepped on a mine and was severely wounded in the resulting explosion.

Although suffering intensely and bleeding profusely, he shouted orders that none of his comrades was to risk his life by entering the death-sown field to render first aid that might have saved his life. “Lt. Michael, a rifle platoon leader, engaged in an assault on a wooded ridge northeast of the village of Neiderzerf, Germany, heard the click of an enemy machinegun bolt. Quietly halting the company, he silently moved off into the woods where he discovered two enemy machinegun nests. Executing a sudden charge, he completely surprised the enemy and captured the guns and crew. “At daybreak Lt. Michael again led his platoon against enemy positions and captured 25 members of an SS mountain division, three artillery pieces and 20 horses. While his compnay was establishing its position, Lt. Michael made two reconnaissance missions of the woods on his left flank. On his first mission he killed two. wounded four and captured six enemy soldiers singlehandedly. On the second mission he captured seven prisoners The next morning the company was subjected to sniper fire and Lt. P Michael, in an attempt to find the hidden sniper, was shot and killed”
