By becoming too involved in your own thinking you may Lower rates for NIPSCo customers Electric customers of Northern Indiana Public Service Company are now experiencing the effect of lower rates due to a refund in purchased power charges from Indiana and Michigan Electric Company. In August when NIPSCo filed its request with the Public Service Commission of Indiana to pass on the refund to customers, it stated that the refund would cover a four-month period. However, a recomputation of the amount to be refunded — $296,095. instead of the $646,098 as previously reported — indicates that the process will be completed in two months, beginning with bills mailed November 2. The reduction reflects lower rates authorized by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission" and approved by the Public Service Commission of Indiana for energy NIPSCo purchased under firm contract from I & M. As a result of the refund, a NIPSCo customer using 1.000 kilowatts of electricity monthly will pay about 14.2 cents a month less, while a customer using 500 kilowatts a month will pay about seven cents a month less, over a period of approximately two months.
