North Webster slates first election in 20 years
The town residents of North Webster are gearing up for the town election on November 6, the first election in 20 years. Both the Republican and Democratic parties have full slates. All North Webster citizens who are eligible to vote may do so between the hours of 6 a m. and 6 p.m. in Camelot Hall. Candidates from the Republican party are: Gregory A. Smith, Ward I; Howard S. Bemish, Ward II; Lucy E. Fribley, Ward III; and Evalee M. Payne, clerk-treasurer. On the Democratic slate are; George D. Burns, Ward I; Gregory A. Evans, Ward II; Jack Guy, Ward III; and Corrine Staples, clerktreasurer. According to town chairman Gary Eastlund, the

WCTU hosts county meeting
Mabie Eberhardt, county president, led group singing to open the OoJaber 18 combined meeting of Warsaw, North Webster and Winona Lake Chapters of Women’s Christian Temperance Union. The meeting was held at North Webster Church of the Brethren with the North Webster Anna Bowers Chapter as host chapter. Piano music was provided by Betty Barrett. Mrs. Thelma Wray discussed, “Christian Outreach.” Mrs. Barrett presented information concerning, “Home Protection.” Social Service was the topic of Doris Toms presentation. Phyllis Matz talked about, “Public Relations.” The topic of Vera Morehouses talk was, “Protection-Messages and Postures.” Information about legislation was presented by Mary Wilcoxson. It was reported that Miriam Kutz has arranged for 424 posters to be displayed in schools, churches, fair booths and business establishments, during the past year. '

COMPLIMENTS TO all the talented pumpkin carvers. There are some very attractive Jack 0 Lanterns to be seen in windows nnd on porches around the area. MRS. M. E. Van Meter was hostess for the October 23 meeting of Chapter DA of P.E.O. sisterhood. Guest speaker for the evening was Maxine Banderer. She gave a report of the Supreme Chapter. A HALLOWEEN party and chili supper was enjoyed on October 27 by members of the Come-Join-Us Sunday School class from North Webster United Methodist Church. It was held at Barbee Conservation club building IN THE hospital — Harold Henry at Anderson. —o—- — AND Mrs. Tom Willman have returned home from a week’s vacation. They enjoyed hiking and sight seeing while staying at Canyon Inn, McCormick's Creek State Park, Spencer. They spent one day touring French Lick. THE SENIOR Citizens group from North Webster Church of God went on a recent outing and bus trip to Fort Wayne. They toured the Fort Wayne Airport and enjoyed lunch at a popular restaurant.

Republicans held the first town caucus this year. The last time a caucus was held by the Grand Old Party was in 1963. Reasons For Running All the candidates were asked why they were running for a town board post in their respective wards or the clerk-treasurer position. Their answers follow: Gregory A. Phyllis Myers sang, “God Os The Seasons.” A Prayer circle was formed and the meeting closed with group singing of, “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” and everyone repeating “The Lord’s Prayer” in unison. CATHERINE BAUSE, North Webster, and Kate Goshert, Warsaw, appeared on the Dorothy Frisk Channel 22 TV show from South Bend yesterday morning. The ladies were representing the upcoming Kosciusko County Extension Homemakers Christmas bazaar. Grace Hathaway accompanied the ladies to South Bend but did not appear on the show. A HALLOWEEN party was held at Barbee Christian Camp on October 28 by Junior and Senior High youth from North Webster United Methodist Church. The young people toasted hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire and went on a hayride. REV. AND Mrs. Brice Casey spent October 16 at Anderson College. They toured the campus and visited with Jane Hammond and Steve Spencer. The Casey family spent last week end visiting relatives at Danville, Ky. NORTH WEBSTER Pythian sisters are planning for a formal inspection, to be held in November. Rehearsal was held during the October 22 meeting and further rehearsal will be held .on Novembers.

Refreshments were served by the hostess and Susan Harwood. An anniversary dinner party is planned for November. Hobby club prices items for bazaar Tippecanoe Township Hobby Club members met October 25 in the home of Ida Hart. Items for the upcoming Christmas Bazaar were priced and tagged. Several craft items were worked on, displayed and discussed. A sack lunch was enjoyed at noon. Dessert of cake and banana pudding was served by the hostess. The time and place of the next meeting is to be announced.
NORTH WEBSTER Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7 p.m. November 21, at North Webster United Methodist Church. MR. AND Mrs. Lester White spent last week end touring Southern Indiana. They visited Rockville, Brown County, Nashville, McCormick’s Creek State Park, Madison and Clifty Falls State Park. REV. AND Mrs. John Petgen and family, formerly of Goshen, now live at the entrance to Shoshoni Park on Little Tippy Lake. Rev. Petgen is the new pastor at Barbee Community Church. MRS. KARL Waugh, r 1 Leesburg, was guest of honor at a pink and blue shower held October 23’ in the social room at Barbee Community Church. THE CONGREGATIONS of the Bible Christian Church and Barbee Community church enjoyed an outing on October 20 at Camp Crosley. A carry-in dinner was served with BBQ chicken as the main dish. Following dinner outdoor games, a camp fire and time of fellowship was enjoyed. DIANE LUTZ, Elkhart, spent last week end visiting with friends at Barbee Lake.

Sgt. Jacks speaks to conservation club
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moser were chairmen for the dinner and program held recently by Barbee Conservation Club members at the Conservation club building. The Invocation was given by Dorothy Thornburg, chaplain. The business session was conducted by Waldo Bostel, president. A carry-in supper was served. The club building was decorated in keeping with a Halloween theme. Sergeant Tom Jacks of the Ligonier State Police Post Women make lap robes for patients, bazaar Lap robes for nursing home patients and Christmas Bazaar items were worked on during the meeting of the Women’s Fellowship held recently at North Webster Church of the Brethren. A carry-in dinner was served at noon with Paul Royer and Jimmy Adams as guests. Prayer was led by Viola Rich- * creek. ’ Sandy Adams and Betty Barrett were in charge of the business session. It was announced that due to the increased use of Camp Mack by campers and leaders that come from a distance an extra supply of linens is needed. Personal Growth Day is planned for November 7 at Crest Manor Church, South Bend. Guest speaker will be Richard Zimmerman, attorney of Crest Manor Church. He will discuss, “How Women Deal With Legal and Financial Matters in Times of Stress.” Betty Lou Shock will be hostess for the November meeting. Tippy Club recognizes birthdays The birthdays of Hazel Cleaver, Kathleen Weghorst, Ruth Boyer and Dot Kurth were recognized during the recent meeting of Tippecanoe Township Extension Homemakers Club. The ladies met in the home of Pauline Gunkle with June Miller and Geneva Belcher assisting. Roll call was answered by 19 members. Dorothy Thornburg continued her report on “Presidents of The United States.” The fall trip to Michigan was discussed by Mrs. Kurth. Catherine Bause reported on the president’s council meeting and the district meeting held recently at North Judson. The lesson, “Meatless Dinners and Low Cost Meals” was given by Clar Brodrick. Jean Hamilton was a guest. Sadie Reynolds will be hostess for the November meeting.

Bemish and his wife, Alice, have four children, Mrs. Kevin (Debra) Sweeney, 26, Lafayette, Doug, 22, Indianapolis, Dawn, 20, Bloomington and Denise, 18, Warsaw; and one grandchild. Bemish is a 1949 graduate of Anderson High School and has been in retail business for 20 years. He is currently working for Da-Lite Screen, Warsaw, and is director of purchasing. Lucy E. Others serving on the dinner committee were Alice Bemish, Lillian Kuhn, Bertha Tinkle and Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Bostel. The next meeting will be held November 20. Election of officers is planned. Messengers hold carry-in Members of North Webster Church of the Brethren Messengers Sunday school class met October 20 in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Paul Shrieder, North Manchester. There were 21 persons present. A carry-in supper was served. Prayer was led by Rev. Shrieder. D’Maris Miller, president, was in charge of the business session. She read a short story from Guide Post magazine. Prayer was led by Joe Barrett. The treasurer’s report was presented by Eva Lock. Devotions were given by Rev. Shrieder. He read from, “Living With Wonders.” Following the business session games were played and group singing enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Royer will be hosts for the December party.

'Geese' topic for County Neighbors Devotions were given by Beth Lamb during the October 24 meeting of County Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club. She read a story about Blue geese and Canadian geese. The meeting was held at the home of Monica Braman. Roll call response was, “Halloween Pranks.” Jean Marshall was named as chairman of a committee to help select Christmas gifts for mental health patients. Sherry Blielie read an editorial by Tim Wright concerning, “Draft Dodgers”. The story of, “Dead man’s Hollow” was told by Jori Webster. Garden remarks were given by Cathy Rodgers and Paula Tom gave the health and safety lesson. Judy Earl demonstrated how to make silk flowers. Special guests present were Georgie Ephlie and Mrs. Earl. Mrs. Tom will be hostess for the November meeting. Come as you are party held by Backwater Friends Sara Rhoades, president, was in charge of the October 18 meeting of Backwater Friends Extension Homemakers Club. Burns and his wife Florence are the parents of two sons. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sr., discussed, “Small appliances and Saving Energy.” Old time customs and cures were the topic of Wanda Moser's cultural arts lesson. Several members received Birthday and anniversary gifts from the secret pals. Refreshments were served from a table decorated in keeping with a Halloween theme. Mildred Gray will be hostess for the November meeting. Homemakers meet on 18th The meditation was read by Phyllis Matz during the October 18 meeting of Efficient Homemakers Club. She told about the composer who wrote the hymn, “It is Well With My Soul.” The ladies met in the home of Alice Long. Lois Royer assisted the hostess. Roll call was answered by 16 members. Janet Ritenour was welcomed as a new’ member. -NWSearch for barn fire, none found Indiana State Police reported a possible barn fire at US 6 and US 33, Firday, Oct. 26. at 8:28 a.m. The Syracuse Fire Department responded and notified the Benton Township Fire Department and a search of the area was conducted. No fire was found, by either departments. t Childcare food program at day care center The Lakeland Day Care Center. Syracuse, will be sponsoring the child care food program. All children at the center will be served the same meals at no separate charge, regardless of race, color or national origin and there is no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
