Rop released on $ 25,000 bond

Daniel Neal Rop, 34, 218 South Lake Street, Syracuse, was released on $25,000 bond following a bond hearing Monday, Oct. 22, to have his bond of $50,000 reduced. The hearing was held in Kosciusko Superior Court. Rop has been held in the Kosciusko County Jail since his arrest on Friday, Oct. 12. Rop has been charged with a class A felony, (conspiracy to commit murder) after, he reportedly hired a “hit man” to kill Daniel Widner, 32, Fort Wayne, a co-worker. Both men are employed with the New England Mutual Life Insurance Co., 2206 Fort Wayne National Bank Building, Fort Wayne. The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association presented the State of Indiana with their 1979 International Award for license plate excellence for the 1979 Indiana license plate. " WEEK END GUEST— Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knudsen, 167 North Shore Drive, Syracuse, had as their week end guest Eric Chan, 25, a native of Hong Kong, and a Far Eastern sales representative for the DuPont company. Mr. Chan is attending a special DuPont course in industrial x-ray in Milwaukee. Wis., this week along with Mr. Knudsen. Mr. Chan has represented the DuPont company in Hong Kong and in Taiwan for the past year, but plans to enter the mainland Chinese market with the DuPont product in the near future. Mr. Chan is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong, speaks several oriental languages, and will have as his territory Hong Kong, Taiwan. Thailand, Korea and the Philippines. Visiting in the Knudsen home over the week end gave Mr. Chan an opportunity to see how a typical American family lives and gave the Knudsens an opportunity to see how the orientals view our world.

Inflation hard on senior citizens

By FLOYD FITHI AN U.S. Congressman Indiana Second District WASHINGTON - Social security payments, the major income for most senior citizens, have not kept pace with inflation. Congressman Floyd Fithian said today. “Senior citizens are hit harder than anyone else by our current economic problems,” Fithian said. “Many of them may even be forced to choose between food or fuel this winter because their fixed incomes simply don’t stretch far enough." Fithian said between 1977 and 1979 social security increases averaged 7.5 per cent. ‘‘Energycosts rose almost twice as fast as that. Food, medical care and other prices increased 9-10 per cent each year, faster than social security.” Fithian said seniors have little opportunity to increase their incomes through better jobs or training. Fithian said solutions to current economic problems include developing competitive sources of fuel, encouraging families to save more, balancing the federal budget, increasing productivity and supporting the
