SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hapner, r 4 Syracuse, were honored at a surprise 25th wedding anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Syracuse Scout Cabin. The party was given by their children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Down (April) May, Milford: Mr. and Mrs. David (Sherri) Yoder, Naperville, 111.: and Randy Hapner, Syracuse. Entertainment was by Sidetrack. Members of the band are Donn May, Larry Criswell, Bill Suffert and Kim Bussard. Hapner and the former Shirley Nicodemus were married on October 3. 1954. in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Syracuse by Rev. Kenneth Foulk. The couple has two grandchildren.

$ 5,000 made in historical tour
In spite of the fact cold, damp weather prevailed hundreds of persons turned out on October 7 to participate in the Kosciusko County Historical Tour. historical society president Susan Ware stated $5,000 was cleared. The money will be used at the county jail which will become a museum when new facilities are built for the sheriff’s department. Mrs. Ware expressed appreciation to persons in the Syracuse area who helped with the tour, making special notation Couples honored on anniversaries Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wheelock of Reading, Pa., were guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. William Motts of Milford. A family dinner was held Sunday honoring the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock and the seventh wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Motts of Elkhart. Also honored were the October birthdays of Mrs. Wheelock and Mrs. William Motts. Other guests present were Mrs Connie Roderick and daughters, Karen and Jennifer, of Elkhart. Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock returned home Monday.

one of the first cottages built on the lake while Anchers Aweigh was built in 1936 and features large, airy rooms, an impressive staircase and Danish furniture. Visitors to the First Charter Insurance Agency in uptown Syracuse saw a renovation of the Martin Hilabold house. Once a decrepit building the house is now a showpiece. Clarksville, located at the south edge of North Webster, has been a favorite of many people for several years. This re-created pioneer village holds much enjoyment for the historian and features a one-room school house moved to Clarksville by th? County’s Retired Teachers The 1859 log house owned byMr. and Mrs. John G. Flory is nestled in the woods along the Tippecanoe River and offers a peaceful setting. Its quiet calm is inviting. Italian architecture was shown in the high-ceilinged home of the Frank Wilsons on Old Road 30. The house was built shortly before the Civil W’ar and denotes this era. Brown rats are no fools. Once a few of their number are killed by poison, older rats sniff what's laid out for them and warn the others.

The book “Tomorrow is a River" by Peggy Dopp and Barbara Vroman is an exciting historical novel. H has been given to the library by Dorothy Williams and family in memory of Ida Neff. Another new book, “Shibumi” by Trevanian, has been given by Mr. and Mrs. James Brooks and family. It is in memory of Marie Hursey Kelly. The book is an exciting novel about political terrorists. Junior Moms hear Blake on "task force' Steve Blake, director of the juvenile justice task force. Warsaw, was the s|>eaker for the Junior Mothers Club on Monday, Oct. 15. The club met in the home erf Mrs. Charles Hafrner. Blake explained the starting of the task force. He told how it has recently acquired an old hotel to use for housing the juveniles instead of their having to spend a night in the county jail. There were 16 members present with Sara Kroh and Pat Hoover assisting the hostess.
