THE FIRST people to walk through the door after we made our decision were Betty Bultemeier and her charming young daughter, Sarah. Sarah, whose father, Bruce, works for The Papers Incorporated, came with her doll in hand. They were here on business and to visit with United Methodist Church members. —o— THURSDAY BROUGHT rain and no people. Farmers asked to make nominations for ASC
Farmers are asked to nominate candidates of their choice to be on the ASC community committee ballot, says Robert Strombeck, chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee. The ASC community committee election will be conducted from November 23 to December 3 by mail ballot. ASC committees are responsible for managing government farm programs on the local level. To meet the needs of individual producers. ASC committee members must be concerned and responsible individuals, StromOpen house today at NCSEC The North Central Special Education Cooperative is holding an open house in its new facilities on East Fort Wayne Street, Warsaw. The public is cordially invited to see the new office and Instructional Resources Services and to rtieet the staff of the NCI Special Education Center. The offices will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Oct. 17. This is an opportunity for any resident of the Co-op’s members school systems (Bremen, Lakeland, Tippecanoe Valley, Warsaw and Whitko School Corporations) to become familiar with the services provided by the center. The center’s staff is particularly interested in helping members of the community and the staff of the school systems to become familiar with the services available from the NCI Center. As the center is attempting to identify all children with developmental and learning problems through its Child Find program, the services offered by the center will be particularly helpful to the parents and teachers of these children. The new Instructional Resources Service includes an instructional materials production laboratory where parents and teachers can make instructional materials that meet the special needs of their children. Newly acquired modern production equipment and supplies are available to parents and teachers who work with children receiving special education services. This is an excellent opportunity for members of the community to observe one way in which federal income tax dollars are being spent locally to help area children.

It gave “L. W.” a chance to reminisce about his years as director of Camp Alexander Mack at Waubee Lake. He said, "Would you believe it was just 56 years ago that I came to Camp Mack as director?” Old timers around Milford remember his years at the Camp well. He served as director, builder, counselor, educator —a real all-around head of the camp that he saw grow from a mere campsite to the most prominent camp in the Church of the Brethren realm. L. W. is retired now, living at a retirement home in North Manchester. —o— MISSY SORENSEN was in on Monday afternoon with information of the Bike-A-Thon for Saint Jude Children’s Hospital. beck said. Kosciusko county farmers have the opportunity to nominate persons they feel would best serve the farm community. Farmers have received petition forms by mail and are now submitting them to the county ASCS office. A few basic considerations should be kept in mind when circulating petitions, Strombeck said. In order to be valid, petitions must be limited to one nominee each, must include written certification that the nominee is willing to serve if elected, must be signed by at least three eligible farm voters in the ASC community, and must be received in the county ASCS office no later than October 29. “Farmers should petition for and elect those individuals they feel would do a good job as a member of the ASC committee. The election of concerned farmers to positions on ASC committees is essential in the administration of farm programs,” Strombeck said. Mr. Strombeck further explained that the county ASCS office welcomes all valid petitions. The opportunity to nominate, vote, and be elected to office is guaranteed to all farmers regardless of race, religion, sex, color, or national origin.
