Baugher-Wysong to display 1980 Pontiacs at Syracuse

Baugher-Wysong ChevroletPontiac; 'Crpmwell, will be featuring Pontiacs at the new car show this weekend. One of the cars to be featured in the show is the Pontiac Phoenix SJ with front engine, front drive for the fuel-crunched American. It’s a car that (attracts attention. The car is powered by a small-. displacement' engine carefully engineered aiqid intergrated with either manual or automatic gearboxes. These transverseengine powertrains, unlike their ’6os forerunners, are designed expressly for this new series of front-engine, front-wheel-drive automobiles. Standard engine for the Pontiac Phoenix SJ is the 151 CID L-4, a four-cylinder crossflow head design that delivers a maximum of 90 hp at 4000 rpm and produces 134 Ib-ft of torque at 2400 rpm with a compression ratio of 8.1.1 Optionally available is a 173 CID V-6. rated as producing 115 hp at a high-buzzing 5100 rpm and 145 Ib-ft of torque at 2400 rpm on .8.58:1 compression The engine’s two-point mounting and anchor hardpoints for lower front suspension components (are accommodated in a compact rectangular subframe that is secured to the car’s unit body just beneath the firewall stamping. Because the rear wheels aren't drive wheels, rear suspension is a relatively non-complex assembly of a beam rear axle located by two trailing links, a transverse Panhard rod or “track bar" to control body sway and an anti roll bar, plus coil springs and tubular shock absorbers angled slightly inward. Phoenix comes in a five-door hatchback or coupe The hatchback looks aerodynamic and it is! The hatch opens high and wide and inside there are 40.9 cubic feet of stowage. Like the hatchback, the coupe has more leg and hip room than last year. Practically everything about Phoenix was reengineered to look toward the future. Bonneville The more emphasis a buyer places on how a full-size car responds to the road, the more he or she will like Pontiac’s 1980 Bonneville. This new Bonneville was designed with a special emphasis on driving. There’s new, more aerodynamic styling, new metric radial tires that help reduce rolling resistance by

PONTIAC TVRBOV-8 Somehow it seems only natural that Pontiac be the first to offer a turbocharged production gas V-8 for the 1980’s and make it available on the super sports. Trans Am and Formula Firebird. The engine is a 4.9 liter 301 cubic inch V-8 that has been modified for turbocharging. Under normal driving conditions, this V-8 operates like a conventional engine to provide power smoothly and capably. But when extra power is needed to pass or accelerate, a special turbocharging unit kicks in quickly and evenly to boost the power output This is accomplished by a turbine driven by the engine exhaust gases. The turbine powers a compressor which forces a dense air-fuel mixture into the engine's cylinders, producing more power This process is constantly monitored by an electronic feedback control that provides the most efficient spark advance during boost conditions The result is extra horsepower when you need it and that’s what makes turbocharging so ideal for Tans Am and Formula Firebird (AMARO INTERIORS The sleek styling and lush good looks of a Chevy Camaro con tinue once a perspn opens the door Inside, (here are full foam front bucket seats comfortably settled in the roomy cockpit-style interior.
