SOVIET TROOPS IN CUBA
American intelligence sources recently disclosed the existence of a brigade of Soviet combat troops in Cuba. I believe that this brigade may be part of a gradual and covert build-up of a Soviet military presence in Cuba. In the last several years, naval buildings, submarines, Mig-23 jets, and advanced communication equipment have also appeared in Cuba. The disclosure of the Soviet troops requires a prompt and firm response by the Administration. The
"Miss Piggy" gets bumped from Turkey TV “Miss Piggy" has been banned from Turkish television. The popular “Muppet Show” character along with the rest of the program has been taken off the air in Turkey during the month-long Ramadan fasting period, in case Miss Piggy offends devout Moslems. The reason for this is that Moslems do not eat pork and consider pigs unclean. Turkish television officials, however, insist that Miss Piggy will be back on the TV screen again at the end of the month. Car backs from driveway, hits another vehicle A car operated by Don E. Kosciusko County Patrolman Brant Nellans investigated Stereo for AM radio Stereo Broadcasts may soon become a reality on AM stations as well as FM. The broadcast trade publication Radio and Records reports that the Federal Communications Commission is currently considering five different methods that have already been tested for transmitting stereo broadcast by existing AM stations. One of the methods, according to the report, has been tested with success for 30,000 “on air” hours on 11 different stations. A decision of which method will be adopted is expected from the FCC in the near future. Radio and Records says. Breaking and entry at Farm Bureau Town Marshal David Hobbs of Milford is investigating a breaking and entry which took place last week at the Farm Bureau Co-op lumber yard in Milford. The incident was discovered by Farm Bureau manager Tony Zimmerman. Entry was made through a back doorway and the person or persons knocked out the Plexiglass
President and the Secretary of State must make crystal clear to the Soviet Union that this build-up is unacceptable to the United States and that the presence of Soviet combat troops is particularly objectionable. If we do not succeed in making clear to the Soviet Union that we find their present military status in Cuba unacceptable, we will invite a continuing escalation of Soviet forces there. The presence of these forces is inherently destabilizing; they offer Cuba encouragement and opportunity for expansion of its military adventures around the world. These adventures, particularly if they take place in the Western Hemisphere, invite increased tensions and vastly increase the risk of confrontation with the Soviet Union at a later date. A The United States has available to it many ways of indicating its displeasure with Soviet policies in Cuba, and the necessity of their being reversed. Specifically, I cannot see how or why the SALT II Treaty should go forward while the Soviet Union is engaged in surreptitious and destabilizing policies in Cuba. Nor do I see how the Congress can consider granting most-favored-nation trade status to the Soviet Union while it garrisons combat troops in Cuba. The President should not miscalculate the depth of the American people’s opposition to Soviet combat troops and advanced weapons systems in Cuba. He ought not to confuse a calm, but firm, approach to the removal of .Soviet troops with total passivity. He ought not to squander what remains of his credibility through indecisiveness and inaction.

The Colonel is truly a legend in his own time, known and loved the world over. To learn more about the man who took a recipe for chicken and turned it into a business that reaches more than 50 countries, look no further than the Colonel Harland Sanders Museum. A new era in food service is recorded on the Museum's walls, in the display cases and by means of specially-designed videotape programs. On display is the charred pressure cooker used by the Colonel to perfect his secret recipe and his cooking method And there are awards and tributes from around the globe, one of the famed white suits that have become the Colonel’s special trademark: a portrait of the Colonel painted by Norman Rockwell: and rare photographs and artifacts that are as much a part of America’s history as Sanders’ own. The Museum, at 1441 Gardiner Lane, is free and open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m Monday through Friday
These are the findings of an indepth study of post-divorce reactions by University of Virginia psychology Professor Dr. E. Mavis Hetherington. Dr. Hetherington interviewed 48 families in the throes of divorce, two months after the split-up. one year and finally two years after the seperation. She found that after two months most men are emotionally upset, while women are more stable. But after two years, a husband is likely to be suffering less aftershocks from the break-up. Dr. Hetherington found that the worst time for both spouses is or e year after the divorce. At that time. 75 per cent of the women and over half of the men she surveyed said they felt the divorce might have been a mistake. ‘Dr. Donald Duck 9 is Scottish M.D. A Scottish physician whose name really is Donald Duck says he is not embarrassed *by :he name his parents gave him. Workplace poisons kill 100,000 a year
A government commission on toxic substances is warning that Americans are slowly but steadily being poisoned to death by tens of thousands of chemicals in their food, in the workplace and throughout the rest of the environment. The draft report by the “Toxic Substances Strategy Committee” concludes that more than 100.000 workers die each year as a result of physical and chemical hazards in the workplace. The commission is chaired by Gus Speth, the head of the President’s Council On Environmental Quality. Speth estimates that up to 38 per cent of all cancers in the United States are caused by exposure to cancer-causing substances on the job The commission warns that the chemical problem is almost too big to control, noting that the Environmental Protection Agency alone must try to monitor the health effects of 43.000 different chemical substances. Potentially dangerous chemicals, it says, range from poisonous substances leaking from waste dumps into our drinking water to additives in our breakfast cereals. Jimmy's hometown goes bust The tourism boom that started in the President s hometown three years ago when Carter was first elected to the White House has apparently gone bust. The Plains visitors’ center reports that tourism has dropped more than 70 per cent — from almost 42.000 visitors in June 1978 to less than 13.000 two months ago. ; Three of the five tour services that used to shuttle visitors up and down Main Street have shut down and the remaining two reportedly only get a handful of customers a day As one Plains resident put it: “Plains is on its uppers “
