HASN’T THE weather been beautiful this week? September isi our favorite month with its cpsp night air, warm afternoon temperatures, blue sky and fresh feeling. Fall will make it's official arrival on Sunday morning while most of Our Town’s residents are in church. We found the following weather omens recently along with a note that they are not guaranteed but thought we would pass them along anyway: Big rabbit tracks in snow foretell more cold weather. Halo around the moon at night — rain on the way. When sminds of bells or trains, far away, become quite clear and louder, rain is coming. If sugar maple buds are fat in fall, a short winter is ahead. We ll have to check that one out! If pine needles tend to turn westward, much snow is ahead. years but it has gotten out of hand. The Kinneys live on the east edge of Milford. Pat has been in town painting the inside of the building and will be moving the business in the near future. —O—HAVE YOU seen the bright yellow cans about town! They are for money to help pay bills incurred by Brian Wilson while he was in the hospital. Brian was burned last June and while he is home he is still recovering. Worrit you help? Pass and Kick competition was listed in a recent paper as being on the 28th of September. It's not. it’s the 29th. The kids can’t play football on Friday morning. They have to go to school! Mr. and Mrs. Pat Speicher were married on September 22. That is the birthdate of Lori Baker. Jaimie Levernier was born on September 23 and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bray were married on that date. Julie Schwartz was born on September 24. September 25 is the birthday of Rita Beerand Elizabeth Brunjes. September 26 is the birthday of Dennis Mock and Jennifer Wolferman. It is also the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brooks. HAVE YOU been in the post office lately? They have !M> new boxes, having moved the door to the work room back and added a new section. Postal employees have been having a ball all week watching as people go to the wrong boxes to get their mail. It would seem we are all creatures of habit and many go to the door instead of looking at sections, therefore finding themselves in front of a new box instead of their ow n. Syracuse Rubber presents program for Kiwanians Warren Sloan, an engineer for Syracuse Rubber Products, presented a program for the recent meeting of the Wawasee Kiwanis Club. „ Sloan stated that the company started in 1946 in uptown Syracuse where the Thrift Shop now remains, with three active employees. The company has just recently moved to its new building on Sycamore Street with over 200 employees and an annual payroll of two million dollars. This and another nine hundred and six thousand dollars going to area businesses for services and supplies make a total of close to three million dollars that are used in this community. Syracuse Rubber makes anything from grommets to casket gaskets. This includes some 1,400 different pieces including washers, rubber molleys, flanges, and toilet flushes. To produce these parts they use 33 presses with their own molds and compounds they make themselves, consisting of rubber from Malaysia and synthetics purchased from around the United States. Assisting Warren Sloan were Jack Ridings, foreman of the mix department, and Lou Byland, production supervisor. $2,800 damages as car hits train south of Milford A car-train collision, two miles south of Milford on CR 900 N, occurred at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. The collision involved a Warsaw' teenager and a Conßail train. Mike A. Anderson, 17, r 8 Warsaw, told police he saw the railroad crossing sign and noticed a train was across the tracks. He stated he applied the brakes, but could not stop in time to avoid striking one of the Conßail boxcars. After impact Anderson’s auto was knocked 37 feet. He was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital fbr body abrasions. Damage to the auto was set at $2,000 and SBOO to the boxcar. Kosciusko County Patrolmen investigating the accident were Thomas Kitch, Richard Monk and Jeffrey Brons ing. VAN CVREN ARRESTED Wayne Allen VanCuren, 31, r 4 Syracuse, was arrested by Winona Lake Marshal John Trier Monday evening, Sept. 17. VanCuren was booked on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and public intoxication. He was released on his own recognizance.
