Redskins slaughter Warriors 42-0
Last Friday night was not a good night for the Wawasee Warriors as the number one ranked Redskins from Goshen traveled to Wawasee and slaughteredthe Warriors 42-0. The Warrior defense held the Redskins scoreless in the early stages of the game. However, the powerful Redskin team, still riding high on last year's state championship, wore the defense down and the slaughter began. Goshen won the toss and elected to receive. Wawasee recovered aMumble and it looked as if it might be a good night as the Warriors began to move the ball down field. They could get no closer than the 24-yard-line before Goshen held and took over on downs. Goshen marched down field but the Warrior defense held the Skins at the 18-yard-line on a four and two. The Warriors failed to move the ball and was forced to punt. A pitch-out to Luis Hernandez gave Goshen a long gain. On the next play the Warrior defense hit quarter back Steve Weddle behind the lines. It looked as though it was going to be a tight game with little scoring. Goshen was not to be denied as the Redskins had other plans and Ron Gillis fan 33 yards for the first score of the night. Only 44 seconds remained in the first quarter. The point after, kicked by Luis Perez, was good and Goshen was in front 7-0 as the quarter ended. Wawasee failed to move the ball and was forced to punt early in the second quarter. It was then the slaughter began. The second touchdown of the game came on a 23-ybrd pass from Weddle to Mike Hunsberger. Perez's kick was good and Gosden was in front 14-0. Wawasee junior Al Schlagenhauf returned the ball 30 yards upfield on the kick. A pass

A fumble on a pitch-out a short time later was recovered by Goshen’s Ron Lewallen Soon Paul Grise was in the end zone. Score: 27-0. Again the kick by Perez was good. Only 122 remained in the half. The Warriors began to move the ball down field but time ran out. Wawasee took the kick to start the second half but Goshen took over on downs a short time later and moved the ball down field quickly on a 54 yard-run by Ron Gillis. A seven-yard run by Gillis put the ball over the goal once again. The kick was good. Score: 34-0. Goshen's final TD came as Luis Hernandez ran 61 yards lor the score. The kick was good. The score: 42-0. Wawasee almost scored in the final minutes of the game as the Warriors drove to the two-yard-line before Goshen's defense stopped them. Comment On Sports FOOTBALL * ’ * By Pete Fritchie WASHINGTON - One has to respect the views of Joe Robbie. of the Miami Dolphins, in his explanation of why he refused to continue the pre-season exhibition between the Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Bucs. Miami was in the position of having little to gain. Also, as Robbie pointed out, too many injuries are likely in a game that rivals-for the Bucs dearly want to beat their more famous state competition--a season game, in interest and intensity. Robbie says he had three z top players hurt in the exhibition game in 1978. including Bob Griese. Nevertheless, after respecting these views, it's too bad the game can’t continue to be played. It was a money maker-and something is wrong when two teams, their coaches and players, can’t be brought to reason and a common outlook on a “natural” game of this kind. Behind the action lies a family angle, the opposition of Tampa’s owner to Robbie’s wife’s involvement in soccer at ’ Fort Lauderdale. That shouldn’t be injected into pro football scheduling. But humans being human, it’s a big emotional factor. ONE MINUTE SPORTS QUIZ 1. Who recently made his 3,000th career hit? 2. Who is the leading active passer in pro football? 3.
