FISHIN'TIPS jk i from , ~ Tom Mann
MISTER MANN: “I read where you advised fishing for fun fish like bluegills, catfish, and earn. What’s the matter with that mean ol’ dogfish?” LIKE ’EM RUFF HELLO RUFF: Not a tiling. There are times when dogfish, grinnel, bowfin, mudfish, or whatever you call old ugly, are all that’s hitting. I enjoy fishing this roughneck, even if it is about as good to eat as an old tennis shoe. HEY TOM: “I read where you advocate putting back fish you don’t intend to eat. How about giving them to a neighbor and still enjoy catching them?” FUN FISHER HELLO FUN FISHER: Well, nothing wrong with that if the neighbor really enjoys them and doesn’t mind cleaning them when
season outlook the coach said “I think it’s the idea we’re going to improve on last year's record and try to come out of the down cycle of the athletic area in football. We're on the way to getting it turned around.” The key for the Warriors to be successful, according to Traviolia will be a complete united team effort. He commented that practice has been going well and all the players have been exhibiting good attitudes about conditioning and learning the plays. “There’s a lot more to say after the first game,” stated the coach. After the jamboree Wawasee will be traveling to Warsaw on Friday. Aug. 24. The first home game will be against Goshen on August 31.

I knock on his door around midnight. DEAR TOM: “I’ve got a friend who knows everything and he swears a fish can’t smell worth a hoot.” ARKY HELLO ARKY: The heck they can’t. Just forget some in a livewell like I did for two days. Talk about smell! But, seriously, fish do have a very keen sense of smell. MR. MANN: “What’s the best color jelly worm for the bass in mv neck of the woods?” MAINE YANKEE HELLO YANKEE: I don’t know, it changes with the season. Let tire bass tell you by trying various colors until you find the one they want. Always Iregin with black.

BASEBALL * * * By Pete Fritchie WASHINGTON. D C. - Sparky Anderson's hiring by Detroit might mean a pennant and World Series for the Tigers in the next five years, as Sparky says. And it’s about time, for one of the baseball's best franchises. Nevertheless, it’s surprising that Sparky was so carried away with his new job that he mentioned making it to the World Series. The Tigers are in the game’s toughest division. They must beat out not only Baltimore but New York and Boston, plus an improving Milwaukee and Cleveland. That’s a tough assignment. Less Moss, fired before he had much of a chance, might have been a good manager. But Sparky is “gate” and is proven. After losing so many years with Ralph Houk (building for next year). Tiger management was under heavy pressure to do something when Moss didn’t get the Bengals off fast this year. Moss didn't have the pitch-ing-which Sparky may also not have. A return to form of Mark Fidrych, plus’the blooming of promising rookies like Pat Underwood, might bolster the pitching staff. If he gets the pitching. Sparky might indeed go all the way. The Tigers have very good defense, young players and ample hitting and speed.
