OUTSTANDING FEMALE SKIER — For the past three years Marcia Jockim, Evansville, a summer resident of Camelot Lake of the Valley, has been the Outstanding Female Skier in the Indiana State Championship Water Ski Tournament. The tournament was held on July 28 and 29 this year and several state records were broken. Miss Jockim, 21, broke two of the records, first in tricks with 3,600 points and second in slalom with 39 bouys and first in jumping, 101 feet, in the women’s division. Miss Jockim will be participating in the nationals at DuQuoin, 111., August 15-19.

Four represent Camelot at Mid-West Regionals

There were four skiers representing Camelot Lake of the Valley at the Mid-West Regional Championships Water Ski Tournament held over the past week end at Shoreview, Minn. Skiers from 12 states participated. They were. Marcia Jochim, Jane Tully, Jerry Hickman and Todd Smith. Marcia Jochim took first in open women’s tricks with a score of 3710.1. With this score she broke the previous Mid-West record by 110 points. She also took fourth in jumping by jumping 98 feet and participating in slalom. With this performance she won the women’s overall championship trophy. Jane Tullv took second in

Junior Girl’s Jump by jumping 70 feet. She took first at the state tournament held at Camelot with a record breaking jump of 74 feet. Tully also participated in slalom and tricks. This is her third year of tournament skiing. Jerry Hickman took part inmen’s two jump. He placed eighth and is the coach for Tully and Smith. Todd Smith placed second in the junior boy’s jump by jumping 93 feet. He has been jufnping one year and took first at the state tournament a week ago, also with a record breaking jump of 100 feet. He also participated in slalom. Next week. August 15 to 19, the National Water Ski Championship will be held in DuQuoin. 111. The Mid-Wtst Region sends the most skiers to this tournament. ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM — During the summer they screamed for their favorite ball team but last Friday night they all screamed for ice cream — A total of 105 gallons of ice cream was served by the Milford Little League Boosters to persons at the elementary school as the summer recreation program came to an end. Syracuse travel team is honored Members of the Syracuse Little League Travel team were the guests of honor at the recent Wawasee Kiwanis meeting. They were treated to breakfast and participated in the meeting. Each team member was introduced and told of the experiences he faced this year as a representative of Syracuse. Members of the team present were Scott Yates, Doug Gerstner. Danny O’Haver, Chris Yoder. Steve Hapner, David Kistler. Todd Roberts, Jim LaTour, Steve Yoder, Jr.. Kevin Tracey. Tommy Prickett, Dan Clodfelter. and Jon Hapner. Coaches present were Lawrence Kistler, assistant coach; Steve Yoder, Sr., defensive coach: Ron Roberts, coach; and Steve Archer, pitching coach. Kris Golden Ist overall at MW Regionals Kris Golden placed first in girls tricks, fourth in slalom and jump to win first overall at the Midwest regional water ski tournament held at Shoreview. Minn., over the past week end. Kris, of near Milford, set a new national record for girls tricks event, breaking the one she had set in May in Florida on July 28 and 29. She set new records in the Indiana state tournament in slalom and jump, placing first in all three at Indianapolis during the summer. August 16-19 Kris will compete in the nationals at DuQuoin, 111. Jennifer Patty sets new mark Jennifer Patty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Bill Patty, Dewart Lake, set new meet records and the new citizen record in the 500 breast stroke at the state long course swimming finals August 3, 4 and 5 in Columbus. Her time for the 500 event was 38.1. She also finished first in the 200 individual medley with the time of 2.42.5; third in the 100 breast with the time of 1.25.4 and 50 free style with the time of 29.8; and seventh in the 100 free style with the time of 1.07.4. In the free style relay team she and her team mates finished first setting a new meet record of 2.02.0 and the team finished first in the medley relay with the time of 2.18.9. Patty received second place for the high point trophy and the four girls on the relay team won the age group trophy for the 11-12-year-old age group. There were 52 teams participating with approximatly 500 swimmers. Patty swims for the Goshen Swim Club which was represented by seven swimmers and finished the day in seventh place.

LWBA gets ready for fall season

The Lakeland Women’s Bowling Association met Wednesday, Aug. 1. in the Wawasee Bowl for its annual fall meeting. President Barbara Miller opened the meeting. Various reports were given by Kathryn Knisley, secretary-treasurer. Rosemary Gerrity, national delegate, presented her report on the Women’s International Bowling Congress annual meeting in Tucson, Ariz., the last week of April. Committees Named The following committees were named with the approval of the membership. Budget and finance — Mary Lou Dixon, chairman: Joan Hoover; and Julie Hickman Legislative — Rosemary Gerrity, chairman; Joy Hostetler; and Barb DeWitt Nominating — Lois Gilbert, chairman; Pat Kampf; apd Jean Knisely WIBC rule changes were discussed. It was decided to hold the annual local tournament in November with dates being announced later. Several tournament committee chairmen were announced as follows with a representative from each league serving on the committee. Checking sheets — Mary Lou Dixon Scorekeepers — Sharon Gilbert Prize list and trophies — Barbara Miller and Kathryn Knisley LWBA workshop for association and league officers and any member who is interested will be held Tuesday. Nancy Lopez was honorary chairperson of Women Golfers Week, July 20-30, conducted by Golf Digest for the eighth year. Its purpose is to encourage more women to participate in the challenging game of golf and to enjoy it more. Golf professionals at thousands of clubs and courses .throughout the country are supporting Women Golfers Week with special tournaments, clinics, fashion shows and other events at the pro shop.
