Reserve release withdrawn for corn, sorghum Producers are no longer authorized to remove corn and sorghum from the farmer-owned grain reserve, it was announced today. Storage will continue for any reserve sorghum or corn loans not repaid during the release period. Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland said that although the mid-month prices for com and sorghum reported by the Economis, Statistics and Cooperative Service (ESCS) are above the release levels - $2.73 per bushel for com and $4.69 per hundredwieght for sorghum — market prices for the two feed grains have been on a downtrend si nee mid-July. In addition, the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) daily average adjust’d prices on July 30 were below the release level for both corn and sorghum. The $2.44 five-day moving average price for corn was 6 cents per bushel below the $2.50 release level while the $4.21 sorghum price was 3 cents under the $4.24 per hundredweight release level. There is one exception in which a producer may redeem com and sorghum from the reserve without penalty. No penalty will be assessed if a farmer, before being notified that release is terminated, has negotiated a bonafide sales contract which calls for delivery within 90 days. However, storage will stop for those loans on July 31. Corn was released June 19 and 89.3 million bushels (12.2) per cent) of the 732 million bushels have been taken out. For sorghum, released June 22, producers have removed 11.9 million hundredweight (26.8 per cent) of the 44.3 million hundredweight. "Men are what they were." George Bernard Shaw

Gasohol on sale at Quick Service Stations
The selling of retail gasohol has started at Center Quick Service, Warsaw and Webster Quick Service, North Webster. The stations started selling the new fuel Thursday, Aug. 2. Supplying these stations is Gast Fuel and Service. Warsaw. Dave Kintzel, president of the company, stated Gast Fuel is receiving the alcohol for the mixture from Decatur, 111., and mixing it with Arco clear gas (unleaded) in the trucks before dumping the load. The supply of alcohol is much greater now that the gasoline and gasohol can continue to be made by Gast Fuel as long as they have gas. Gasohol is blended of nine parts gasoline to one part distilled alcohol. Currently these stations in Warsaw and North Webster are the only two Gast Fuel is supplying with gasohol, because the stations have tanks already set up for the mixture. The two stations will also continue selling regular and unleaded gasoline. Kintzel stated that they have run out of gasohol the last couple of months at the station and further stated they will sell the fuel as long as there is a supply available. In a letter to Gast Fuel and Service Inc. customers the firm stated that even though most of the gasohol fbr sale is made with no-lead gasoline, the firm feels there is no reason why it cannot give its customers leaded gasohol. Although the customer must ask for the mixture and it is limited to those to whom the firm delivers gasoline. The leaded mixture would be mixed in the trucks, but according to Kintzel it would mean having to supply another tank to sell the mixture at the stations. Kintzel commented that the country is going to have to “end up having something other than petroleum and it's a good idea to try it." Gasohol Better Gasohol has been called the fuel of the future . . . here today. Numerous tests at laboratories and on the road show that the gasohol blend provides a higher octane fuel, increased mileage per gallon, better engine performance with less “knock" and “ping," reduced engine deposits, less gas-line freeze-ups and a cleaner exhaust emission. The gasohol blend will work in any vehicle without engine or carburetor modification. There are benefits for the
