At the J. C: Penney Mixed Team Championship, which capped off thel97B season, she teamed with Michelob Advisory Staff teammate Mike Hill to take the tournament into a suddendeath playoff and nail down second place. That made for the second year in a row that Vivian won more than $20,000 on the tour. Born in Atlantic City. N. J., on January 24, 1947. Vivian began playing golf in her late teens. She tied for second in the 1975 tour qualifying school, but won only $2,100 in her first year on tour. v |VV 3 I DIRECTOR SWITCHES — Jim Garner, director of the Syracuse Little League program, spoke to the Wawasee Kiwanis Club at its recent meeting. Garner stated that there has been a few problems due to the switch-over to the school supported program over that of the Lakeland Youth Center. Garner is pictured above on the left with Ron Roberts. Wawasee Kiwanis Chib president on the night. There were eight T-Ball teams with about 100 boys and girls from kindergarten through second grades playing. Girls’ Minor League consisted of 39 girls or three teams and the Boys’ Minor had six teams with 75 boys. The majors consisted of 44 boys in four teams. In all there were 22 teams and over 272 boys and girls playing and learning baseball this summer. Garner said that he has learned a lot about organization and a lot about children this summer and that the next season should be even better with better schedules and more boys and girls planned to participate. About the biggest problem that was encountered was that of umpiring and that is just plain old “American tradition,’’ he said. The Kiwanis meeting ended with Mr. Garner passing around his childhood baseball trading cards, some dating back to the early 19505. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Ray Buhrt GENERAL CONTRACTOR Residential & Commercial Building Phone: 457-3431 Road 13, Syracuse
