Our thanks to Noble Fisher for the loan of the clipping which featured this photo. —o— WE’VE ALWAYS heard that Becky Doll is a nice person but now she’s gone above and beyond the call of duty! It seems Becky is providing a drinking fountain for Our Town’s animals. Actually, Becky put a bucket out to catch the water from her air conditioner and the dogs are taking advantage of the water being caught in the bucket. —o— DO YOU know what an upper crust is? Homer Miller, a resident of West Catherine Street, has been competing in races throughout the area with considerable success. He was a track and cross country star at North Wood High School near Nappanee where he graduated in 1971. In Nappanee’s Rotarysponsored long race (15km, or 9.3 miles) Saturday, billed as the Roadapple Race, Miller came in second with a time of 54 minutes, 18 seconds. At Tlie Mail-Journal sponsored Road Run at Syracuse on July 3 he came in 10th in the long race
(7.9 miles). A week ago Saturday, at the two-mile Pioneer Days race through the streets of Warsaw, he came in seventh with a time of 10 minutes, eight in 86 degree heat. The attracted 1,100 racers in three different events. In this race. Miller came in 23rd in his race, running hard on the heels of Patti Lyons, who ranks second among the nation’s women runners. “I was chasing her all the way,’’ is the way Miller told it. As these races continue to come up, you can watch for the name Homer Miller and you can be fairly certain he’ll be among the early finishers. Miller, by the way, is press room superintendent at TheM-J. Vandalism at grocery store Vandalism occurred \late Monday night or early Tuesday morning at Galloway’s Grocery, r 3 Syracuse, as reported by Kent Hare to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s office.
