Corn being redeemed from groin reserve
As of July 31, Kosciusko County farmers had redeemed 188,178 bushels of com from the farmer held grain reserve. This represents about 19 per cent of the over one million bushels of com held under grain reserve agreement by farmers in this county, according to Phil Braman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office. 'Corn in Vhe grain reserve represents qicess stocks from the three prior crop years, which was isolated from the market until prices improved. On June 19 the national average corn price reached the release level. At the release level, farmers holding grain in the reserve were authorized to sell the corn if they so desired. During the release period, since June 19. the national average price of corn went up to a high of $2.70 from the release level of $2.50. The most recent national average com price was $2.66. Should the national average market price reach $2.80 all corn reserve agreements

would be called and farmers still holding corn in reserve would have 30 days to repay the com loan The reserve program offers farmers three-year loans and annual storage payments to hold their crops off the market when excess stocks cause low price, the grain is then released and made available to the market when prices reach higher levels. Com is released when national average market prices reach 125 per cent of the current national loan rate. Wheat becomes eligible when prices reach 140 per cent of the loan rate.
