How would you like to spend your summer vacation attending practices early in the morning? Jennifer Patty, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Bill Patty, r 3 Syracuse, goes to Goshen pool from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. every morning to practice with other members of the Goshen Swim Club. Some times she also attends swim practice for the Wawasee Competitive swim team from 5 to 7 p.m. She has been swimming since she was six years old and it has paid-off for her. Currently she is rated in the top 20 in the nation in-, her age group in the 50 yard breaststroke, 100 yard breaststroke and 50 yard free style events. The rating was based on the short course swim meets. The areas she does best in are the breaststroke, free style and the individual medly events. are 30.0 for 50 yard free style; 38.3 for 50 yard breaststroke and 1:26.0 for the 100 yard breaststroke. The Patty family has only been living at Dewart Lake for the last two years, moving here from Fort Wayne. In Fort Wayne she used to swim for the Club Olympia. Towns in which she has competed in include Indianapolis; Toledo, Ohio; Chicago, Ill.; Bloomington; Columbus; South Bend; Cincinnati, Ohio; Joliet, Ill; and many other cities in the Illinois, Indiana and Ohio area. Swimming for Patty is personal satisfaction, knowing she is doing the best she can. She did agree she has met a lot of kids and her mother, Nancy, is hoping for her daughter to get a college scholarship. But, Jennifer Patty has set no goals for herself in a swimming career. Reflecting back over her years of competitive swimming the biggest thrill was when she competed in Cincinnati, Ohio for the Midwest meet, when she lost the high point trophey by two points. Another time was when she swam in the 10-year-old and under age group and won the title as Indiana Swimmer of the Year by having the most places than others in her age group. Presently she is at the top of her age group with the most places. In competition she has com-

peted approximatly 132 times, with about 25 competitions a year. Most of her swimming meets are in the summer. To show for her time and effort in swimming she has approximately 38 trophies in the top three places, high point trophies, plus relay trophies. She also has approximately 200 medals from the meets. During June she attended Doc Counselman's Swim Camp at Indiana University for a week. At the stroke clinic those attending worked on exercises and swimming strokes. Her mother stated she was one of two campers who could do breaststroke exercises, one of the hardest exercises. Swimming is not the only thing she does in the summer, she also plays softball on the regular and all star leagues in Milford. Other activities include, volleyball, gymnastics, track and she is a cheerleader. She won the 440 relay at regional for track. During the school year along with the other sports she swims for the Goshen Swim Club. Mrs. Patty commented that if her daughter ever stopped swimming it would be because she is tired of it. She continued saying she very seriously thought of quiting this year, because she is the only one in the area. Although her parents talked her out of it this year. '
