Wawasee swim team stopped by Rochester, TV
Members of the Wawasee swim team were defeated by the Rochester Royals (410-170) and the Tippecanoe Valley swimmers (376-167) in meets held July 10 and 11. Coach Tim Caldwell stated the team was 3-0 for the season but the loses do not reflect the talent of the team. Caldwell said the problem is in the fact they don't have enough team members. Less than 10 boys are on the team. A full team is needed to win meets. The team will swim at North Manchester at 9:30 am. on Saturday in the final meet of the summer season. Caldwell further noted a winter swim team, for youngsters seven years old through the eighth grade, will be formed in midSeptember. First place winners for the young Wawasee team are listed. Winners in the Rochester meet areas follows: Chris Eldridge, Jennifer Tuttle, Angela Kirkdorfer and Lara Tracy, girls 9-10 free style relay Mike Tuttle, boys eight and under back and free style Jennifer Baumgartner, girls eightand under breaststroke Suzie Baumgartner, girls 9-10 breaststroke Eric Jones — boys 9-10 breaststroke Jennifer Patty, girls 13-14 breast and free style Barbie Butler, girls eight and under backstroke and free style Tony Boyer, boys 13-14 long free style b Area skiers place at Open Area residents won honors at the Hoosier Open ski tournament held at Nellans Lake in Warsaw over the week end. Todd Smith of Camelot Lake of the Valley won third in tricks, third in slalom, first in jump and first over all in junior boys'. His sister, Paula, also participated in the the event. Marcia Jochim of Evansville and Camelot Lake placed third in slalom, first in tricks, first in jump and was first over all in the women’s divison. Jill Tully of Lake Wawasee. skiing for Camelot, won second in jump, second in tricks and third in slalom in the girls' division. Her sister, Jane Tully, placed third in slalom and fourth in tricks. She also placed first in jump with a 72 joot jump to earn her Exceptional Performance and qualify for the Midwest regionals in the junior girls’ division. The girls’ father, Dr. William Tully, placed fourth in slalom, third in jump and third in tricks in the veteran men’s division.
