Gene McCann heads HPI
Lawrenceburg publisher Gene McCann moved from the vice presidency to the presidency of the Hoosier State Press Association at the group s annual reorganizational meeting July 13 in Franklin Franklin D. Schurz. Jr., publisher of the South Bend Tribune, v<as elected vice president at the meeting Secretary for the coming year will be William Connelly, publisher of the LaGrange News and the Middlebury Independent. Eugene S: Pulliam, publisher of the Indianapolis Star and News and president of Phoenix Newspapers Inc., was re-elected treasurer. McCann is co-owner of Register Printing’ Co. and copublisher of Register Publications in Lawrenceburg Its newspapers, all weeklies, are the Dearborn County Register. Aurora Journal-Press. Rising Sun Recorder and Ohio County News. The new president attended Indiana’s Saint Joseph College and Xavier University. CinFithian has new press secretary Congressman Floyd Fithian announced the appointment of Susan Clark Etter, Monticello, as press secretary effective August 13 She served as Fithian's press aide during his 1974 campaign and worked in his Washington office in 1975. She is a 1976 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, with degrees in journalism and political science. She worked two years as a reporter and editor for the Indiana Daily Student. Mrs. Etter is a 1972 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School.

Truck hits pump at Pacer station An accident occurred when a 1978 Ford driven by Timothy R. Gory, 16, 8 Plymouth Court. Deerfield, 111., struck a gas pump at the Pacer station on South Huntington Street, Syracuse, on Thursday, July 12. Gory was traveling west in the Pacer driveway when he turned right to wait for a receipt and hit the pump.

July 16. Estimated damage from the fire is $2,000 to $3,000. Earl Kammer, r 2 Harper Road. Leesburg, was operating a combine on Esther Gawthrop Metzger's farm on CR 900. one and one half mile east of Old Road 15. when part of the combine caught fire and ignited the wheat-straw field. The fire damaged five to six acres.

Harris gave members an idea of the responsibilities of a funeral director and the value that funerals contribute to the community. Mr. Harris also stated that the attitudes of people are changing to accept death more openly as a part of life. The media has changed, allowing discussion of death and funerals to be aired and published.
