Stanley has her master’s degree from Indiana University andher bachelor degree from Ball State University. Plans for the expansion of the Lal eland Youth Center program will include from July 16 to 20, emphasis on a craft program for stud* nts from kindergarten through grade six. On August 4, it will be fun day for youth in the Lakeland ai ea. Plans are being developed for showing family films at the center in the near future. Fall, winter and spring activities at the Youth Center will include gymnastics, football, readorama, canoe lessons, field trips, national jumping Olympics, basketball, ice skating, cross country skiing, square dancing, and other activities. The director hopes to expand the center’s program to the North Webster and Mill ord communities. Lakeland Kiwanians attending the Kiwanis International Convention at Toronto, Canada, were Lorin Badskey, Sherman Bryant, Rich ird Long, Phil Hoy, Chris Koherand Forrest Richards.

DONNA FISHER was a very happy mother on Tuesday afternoon. She received a very special telephone call from her daughter. Earlene Tatro, from Alexandria, Egypt. Earlene and her husband. Nick, were in Alexandria on assignment (he’s an Associated Press reporter and she does free lance work). Earlene told her mother a direct line had installed from Alexandria td the USA so she took advantage of it to call home. What made the call extra special was the fact Tuesday was Donna's birthday. —O’MR. AND Mrs. Vern Borkholder will observe their anniversary on July 14. Birthdays on that date are Polly Chupp, Pat Leemon, Wilma Ruch, Doug Rheinheimer and Tom Brembeck. Sunday, July 15, is the birthday of Merle Campbell. Delbert Poe-, Cathy Vanlaningham, Dorothy Haney and Donn May will all be one year older on July 16.

This reporter ventured over to Syracuse last Tues day to join in the fun of The Mail Journal sponsored Flotilla Roa< I Race. It gets into your blood — although we haven’t committed ours ?lves to running in the next one. St :te Senator Richard Shank of Gos len was there. So was U. S. Sen: tor Richard Lugar of Indiar apolis. They both raced. Sha ik placed first in his age grot p. Lugar was 50th overall. Both were challenged by State Sen itor John B. Augsburger to rac< next year. “ran” up the hill and down the road. Lorene Spearman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spearman of Dewart Lake, served as starter for the race. Lorene is recovering from an injury and did not run in the event. The winner of the short race was Tim Hamman, son of Syracuse Elementary School Principal and Mrs. Robert Hamman. Tom Lower of Goshen was first in the long race. Runners participated from as far away as Texas and California. From Texas were Mr. and Mrs s Michael Treesh and son, Erik. And from California was Jill Ulery. For thosewho don’t know, Mike Treesh is theison of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Treesh of Our Town. His wife, Nancy, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ahfns, also of Our Town. And, Ji}! Ulery, is the daughter of Nancy’s sister, Judi. BIRTHDAY CONGRATULATIONS go out to Grace McDonald of South James Street. Mrs. McDonald was !»0 years young on July 10. As we understand it, she spent the day with her niece, Mrs. Thelma G. Cochran. —o—- — OUT Majors, here comes Jay! Our Town’s Jay Kaiser took top honors at Wawasee High School recently in the baseball program. Jay set seven records while on the Warrior baseball team. Jay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kaiser of north of Milford, had-74 hits during his career with the Warriors —1977-79. He had 44 runs batted in during his career. Jay stole 16 bases during the past season for a career total of 32. His strikeout percentage was .059 in 1979 and .213 was his career percentage. Jay was named as a pitcher on the second team, all-sectional. He was also named to the all conference first team as an infielder. Needless to say, Jay was named Wawasee’s most valuable player this year. He carried a batting average of .362 and served as co-captain of the team. —o—- — RESIDENTS are reminded of the fact more emergency medical technicians and drivers are needed for the Milford Emergency Medical Services, Inc. New classes will be September at the Gosnen Hospital for EMTs and persons are urged to register now. Anyone interested in taking the EMT class or in driving for EMT crews is urged to contact John Perry or any other EMT for more information.
