Farms exports may reach $ 32 billion

Farm exports for fiscal year 1979 are expected to total $32 billion, nearly $5 billion more than last year’s record high, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to the department of agriculture the increased export activity will be good for farm income and good for the American economy. Growth in U.S. agriculture over the past 10 years has been largely based on exports. Most of the expected 17 per cent growth from last fiscal year's $27.3 billion agricultural export total will come from higher prices, according to the USDA’s export outlook report. However, export volume is also expected to rise four per cent from last year’s 122-million-metric-ton level. Farmers depend on foreign markets as an outlet for much of their production, with more than one-fifth of all cash receipts from farm marketings coming from exports. In the marketing year Mail boxes? paper tubes are damaged There were two mail boxes and paper tubes run over by a car driven by Patti J. Grawcock, 29, 331 Medusa Street, Syracuse, on Sunday at 10:50 p.m., while she was driving in the rain. The boxes belonged to the Wawasee Motel and Foo and Faye Restaurant and were off of SR 13 in Syracuse. Damage to the 1974 Ford she was driving was estimated at SI,BOO.

just past, 54 per cent of the wheat producers’ crops moved into export; 68 per cent of U.S. rice production was exported; about half the soybeans and products, cattle hides and tallow were sold in foreign markets, along with substantial amounts of many other products. Agricultural exports have become basic to economic health in this ctrantry, not only on the farm but in business and industry as well. Farm exports have been the brightest spot in the U.S. trade picture. While nonagricultural trade has been in deficit, exports of agricultural products have exceeded imports of those products by over $lO billion in each of the past five years, producing an agricultural trade surplus to be applied against the deficit in nonagricultural trade. U.S. agricultural exports also generate more than one million jobs in this country —about half of them on the farm in the production of commodities for export and the remainder in export-related businesses off the farm. •o
