'You can't work all the timcT, says man who collects arrowheads
Why would a man want to collect arrowhead’s? Cleland Gunden of Milford answered the question by saying. ‘‘There’s a lot of eye appeal in an arrowhead and not knowing who the last people were to handle it between the time used and the time found.’’ Gunden started collecting arrowheads in 1946. He has collected over 250 arrowheads still in one piece. He hasn't traveled all over the countryside trying to locate arrowheads. He has been fortunate enough to find all of them on the land he farms. His time isn’t spent looking for them, because he stated if he looks for them specifically, then he can’t find them. It’s when he’s not looking that his eye will catch a glimpse of one protruding from the ground. Many accounts have been stated by his wife and those who have worked with him that he will be working in the field and stop the tractor because he noticed an arrowhead. Although there are many people who collect, buy and sell arrowheads, the stones themselves are not worth much, dollar wise. ‘‘l’m not really interested in the dollar value," explained Gunden. ‘‘lt’s just having them and the love of finding them.” It seems he has a knack of finding

the stones, especially when -he's driving the tractor. "It’s a hobby you can’t work at all the time,’’ commented Gunden. "I don’t think I'd enjoy it if 1 went out and bought them." Some of the stones in the arrowhead collection have been found with only the top section showing out of the ground. The largest arrowhead he has found is 4*2 inches long, the smallest is about three-quarters of an inch long. The collecting of arrowheads has spread in the Gunden family. Tom and Phil, two of the sons, have taken up the interest, along with the other children. To help explain the history of arrowheads and the names of some, the Gundens have books on the subjects but have not labeled any arrowheads that have been found.
