collected since the beginning of World War 11. She has kept her collection up to date with old and new buttons. In her collection there are buttons of all shapes, sizes, colors and designs. The majority of her buttons are found arranged on
cardboard, in various geometric designs. All of the arranged buttons are covered with plastic or are placed in glass cases. When Mrs. Davisson started her collection, button collecting was becoming the fad. At that time she was buying any button she saw and liked. She joined the Indiana State Button Society, later becoming president of the society. She also attended national shows. What helped her learn a lot was going to markets. One Button Flea Market she attended was at the Wisconsin State Fair grounds. She remembers there were more button dealers there than at the state shows. Mrs. Davisson used to travel to Shipshewana to the flea market where she would find an unusual button from a button dealer or from someone who set up a booth. She remembers paying $5-6 for an unusual button. The most expensive button currently is the “Skating at

Central Park” which sells for S2OO. She has won awards for her displays at state button shows. When she fixes the buttons for the shows she uses a button measure to distinguish the correct size and a steel magnet to check the authenticity of the button. In her displays there are 42 buttons arranged on a single board. The buttons do not need to be the same size but may be various sizes places in a design of some type. The buttons do, however, need to be of the- same classification if they are on a single display. In her collection she has Bible Buttons — the picture on the button can be connected to a passage in the Bible. She has also put together a book with some of the buttons from the Bible and the passages they represent. Within the last five years she has been too busy to spend much time with her collection of‘buttons. Taking up her time is the Age and Aged Program out of
South Bend and the REAL Services, in which she is active by attending conferences. All her buttons are not displayed on cardboard or in glass cases. She has made a dress and sewed on pearl buttons as decorations and has made a cape from left over buttons or duplicate buttons she collected. She is not certain how many buttons she has in her collection, since a lot are not identified and displayed. She has the buttons from her mother’s wedding dress on one of her coats. They draw a lot of attention when she wears the coat. Mrs. Davisson has presented the Oswego Historical Society and the Elkhart County Historical Society with a tray of buttons. One pseudo-physician claimed that cancer could be cured by eating nothing but Brapes —and he offered 10,000 to anyone who could prove him wrong.
Don't Overlook Mini-Vacations! While you're enjoying that nice, long vacation in your RV. someone is sure to say, "Wouldn't it be neat if we could do this more often?" Well, you can. It's great to have two or three weeks on the open road, but you can get a/much fun out of your camper, trailer, van or motor home on long weekend outings. Investigate the many spots in your vicinity that can be reached in a day or so. The whole family will feel rejuvenated by these shorter excursions, and you'll be getting more value from your recreational vehicle, as well. If you go only once 'round the room, you are wiser than he who sits still. —Estonian proverb

Silver Lake Days planned
Silver Lake Days, sponsored by the Silver Lake Lions Club and the Silver Lake Area Jaycees, will be held on June 22. 23 and 24. Fun for everyone can be found at this event. Two events kick off the celebration on Friday with three classes competing in bike races and a pet parade. The races begin BEAUTY TIPS If you’re into active living, you probably don't have a great deal of time to spend on involved beauty routines. Here are some short cuts to looking good this season: • Take advantage of the current trend toward shortcropped hair by having yours done in a new, wash-and-wear style. Or, if you’re loathe to part with long locks, have a couple of flattering wigs at hand for instant glamour after a day of activity. • Keep those hands looking smooth and lovely, with frequent applications of hand cream, kept within easy reach wherever you are. If your nails are weak and always splitting, be sure to include plenty of protein in your diet. In the meantime, nail protector can help strengthen the surface of nails. • Give your wash-and-wear hairdo a quick pick-up by spraying it with water that’s had a little cream rinse added to it.
