"Executive estates" approved by Area Plan Commissioners

Property located on the south side of SR 13 and south of Lake Wawasee in Turkey Creek Township was approved last Wednesday by the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission to be used for “executive estate” housing. The large plat of land of 111.8 acres was sought by petitioner Mrs. W. E. Long for use as a residential subdivision. - Preliminary plat approval was granted under the stipulation that the new development hook up to the Syracuse sanitary sewer system as soon as it is feasible since the land is approximately 500 feet from the sewer lines. As was the case with another proposal last month, this tract of land was previously platted but never recorded. Also receiving approval was Phylis Miller who wished to rezone 25 acres from an agricultural to a residential district which is located on the west side of SR 13, on a channel on the east side of Kuhn Lake in Tippecanoe Township. The rezoning petition was passed quickly with no objections being raised by the commissioners or remonstrators. In a continuance from last month’s meeting, the case of Maurice D. Yoder was tabled to this month’s meeting because enough blueprints of his proposed plat were not furnished to commission members. Last Wednesday, however, his petition for a preliminary plat approval of a residential subdivision on 15.42 acres, located on the south side of the Elkhart-Kosciusko County Line Road (CR 1400 N) and 3,220 feet west of East Shore Drive in Turkey Creek Township, was denied. Yoder had wanted the access road to the lots on the east side. The board recommended that the road run along the west side of the lots and that the driveways on the lots facing County Line Road be combined. A petition by Lewis Niebert for a preliminary plat was also approved after William L. Stahl questioned what restrictions would be placed on the proposed residential subdivision. Niebert informed Stahl that the restrictions would be the same as those imposed on Du-Cu-Nee Village’s first addition, which prohibits mobile homes. This 2.3 acre of land is located on the north side of Armstrong Road and 600 feet southeast of CR 475E in Tippecanoe Township. Two vacations were denied to petitioners Larry and Dorothy Lambert for an easement in Rainey’s Court addition on Wawasee Lake and to James and Marian Tarr and Gerald and Carol Jaquay for their proposed easement in Redman Park on Dewart Lake. Final action of the day resulted in the approval of the first-phase of development for Camelot Lake of the Valley 11, east of Milford. Jerry Hickman is the developer. Since the first Wednesday of the month is July 4, the July meeting of the area plan commission has been changed to Tuesday, July 3, at 1 p.m.
