This boat had problems It doesn’t seem like anyone could get into much difficulty with a sailboat They have no motor or any mechanical parts and just scoot along with the breeze. Well - Surprise - Surprise! On May 27 a sailboat manned by two fellas went flying down a channel behind some homes on the north side of Irish Lake. It got wound up in the power lines, burned a hole in the mast, cut the power lines in two and knocked out the power to several houses. Part of the power line went into the channel and the rest of it fell across the road. Observers were dumbfounded when one of the occupants of the sailboat jumped into the channel to push the boat to shore. He didn't light up like a neon sign, much to everybody’s relief. The road was blocked off to keep cars from running into the downed lines and the power company was called. What could have been an extremely dangerous situation turned out to be a couple of hours of inconvience for residents, motorists, boat owners, some people who were trapped on a dead road by the downed lines and workers from the power company who were called out on a holiday weekend to repair the damage.
