Lake Wawasee is great!

The magic of Lake Wawasee calls thousands of visitors to her shores each year. Her cool breezes offer relief from the heat of the city and the lake’s rippling waters offer the best for swimmers, boaters and fishermen alike. Stately mansions grace her shores as do small summer cottages. Big boats, small boats, row boats, speed boats, canoes and sailboats float at docks and bounce in the waves. All types of pan fish can be caught by the avid fisherman. Even the novice has a chance of taking home his dinner. A historian can spend an entire summer looking into the history of the big lake. It’s hard to picture but years ago the area was covered by dense forest and marshes and the only inhabitants were the Indians who fished and hunted the land abundant with wildlife. Cedar Point is a glacial name. It was Exercise before swimming Swimming is a great way to stay fit. It’s one of the best physical exercises for people of all ages, including the handicapped. Submerging the body in water automatically increases circulation to some extent. Water pressure on the body also helps promote deeper breathing. With well planned activity, both circulation and deep breathing increase even more. Before you get into the water be sure to do warm-up and conditioning and stretching exercises to protect yourself from injury and discomfort. An easy way to start exercising in the water is to jog in place. Stand with your arms bent in running position and jog in place, irt the water.

All are 18 hole courses and are located in the Lake Wawasee area. All in all, Wawasee is a great place to visit and an outstanding place for a summer home. Planning is important ■ Careful planning is an important part of every business or financial decision we make these days, but planning our leisure activities can be just as important to assure the largest possible return in terms of fun, enjoyment and relaxation. Summertime is when motorists need to plan in advance their leisure time vacations. Although these preparations are not as difficult as negotiating a loan or closing a business deal, summer travelers will still want to give plenty of thought to the matter. Teach youngsters how to swim Swimming is one of the most popular summer sports in the area. It is a fun way to cool off under the hot, summer sun. Since there is so much water in the area it is a good idea to be sure that the little ones in the family should learn how to swim too. The best time to start them is when they are young, they don’t fear the water and actually adapt to the water wonderland very well. Repetition should be used constantly to help the child retain some of the basic skills and water safety should be taught along with the swimming lesson.

The Nutrition Site is open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The site is located at the Syracuse Scout Cabin and is open to all persons over 60 who wish to take advantage of social activities or have a hot. nourishing meal.

REAL plans summer activities for seniors

The REAL Service in Syracuse is planning picnics, outings and taking the group to area plays. The nutrition program is for the elderly and is funded by the Indiana State Commission on Aging and the Aged through Title VII of the Older Americans Act. The program is designed to serve persons who are 60 years of age or older and provides a low cost, hot and nutritionally balanced noon meal on a daily basis. There are opportunities for recreation and social activities available to the participants.

The meal center is open from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. with a site director employed to manage the service. Reservations are required so that the correct number of meals may be ordered from the caterer. The site is located at the Syracuse Scout Cabin and reservations may be made by calling the Nutrition Site, Syracuse. The program strives to promote better health among the older segment of the population through improved nutrition and the pleasure that is derived through the social activities that are offered.
