SPECIAL OLYMPICS VOLUNTEERS — Dianne Elliott and Pat Bartow, second and third from right respectively, were guest speakers for Kiwanis Club of Lakeland. North Webster, on May 7. ' The Special Olympics Volunteers are special education teachers in Syracuse Elementary School. They believe thatjhe Special Olympics program helps physically handicapped, mentally retarded and children with learning difficulties and emotional problems. In Special Olympics the participants compete in basketball, swimming, wheelchair use. gymnastics and track and field events. This competition helps those who take part to adjust to the problems they face. Local competition for the Lakeland area has already been conducted at Wawasee High School and the regionals are scheduled for South Bend. Following the regional competition the State Special Olympics will beheld in Terre Haute.

Wilson, Lemberg team up for art show

Budding young art entrepeneurs Steve and Sherri Scott-Welty have brought together the talents of two generations for a two-man show entitled “A Matter of Dimension.” Seventy-two-year-old painter, print maker Norm Wilson has teamed up with 28-year-old sculptor Richard Lemberg. The two man show will be on display from May 18 to June 2 at Galarina Arts, 106 North Fifth St., Goshen. Gallery hours will be from 10 a m.-5:30 p.m. daily, closed Sunday and Wednesday. Norm Wilson is a self-taught artist of notable renowned. He has contributed to the Indiana art scene since the 1930’5. His accolades are too numerous to mention. Highlights of his distinguished career are exhibitions at: The Pennsylvania Academy, Herron Art Institute, Butler Art Institute, Milwaukee Art Institute, The Brooklyn Museum, The Library of Congress. Arts. Most recently Wilson was honored to be in the opening show of the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart. Richard Lemberg is orginally from the Chicago area. He now lives in Syracuse. Though his artistic career has been shorter than Wilson's, he too has a distinguished accumulation of awards including: DePaw University. Scholastic Art Contest in Chicago, Water Tow Art Show and Gold Coast Art Show. Lemberg's sculpture “Mosquito” is in the collection of the University of Notre Dame He also has a large sculpture in front of the Goshen Racquet Club. Although he is best known for his metal sculptures. Lemberg also does works in ceramic, wood and stone. “We are really excited about this show.
