Kaiser has taught industrial arts at the high school level and has both bachelor and master's degrees in industrial arts from Indiana State University. Some question was raised by board members and Robert Hoerr on a man with this much experience coming into a position the school board has had problems with filling. Arnold stated a survey will be conducted by John Naab, curriculum director orr the curriculum and equipment in that area. Mary Lou Dixon was given a temporary contract from April 19 to May 31 to take the place of Gladys Preston, English teacher at Syracuse Junior High School. The board received a letter of resignation from Mrs. Preston stating she would not be able to return to her duties because of an illness. Also the board was notified by Helen Murchie, special education teacher at Syracuse Junior High School, that she will not be able to return for the remainder of the year. Replacing her will be Kay Meditch, who has substituted for her a number of times. Mrs. Mediteh’s contract will be from May 10 to May 31. Community Schools. The co-op is a five school corporation consisting of Bremen, Tippecanoe Valley, Warsaw, Whitko and Lakeland. It was pointed out to the board by Arnold the cost is up $9,111.81 from the previous year but does not represent an increase in program. Arnold stated the reason for the increase was due to the amount of federal funds received. Lakeland Schools have 20 students in this program, 12 moderatly handicapped at Cardinal Center, four visibly handicapped and four deaf. The last two groups are helped in the schools instead of at a state institute. In other action the board accepted GED test scores of Susan Coy, r 3 Syracuse and Richard A. Mitchel, Fort Riley, Ka. Coy completed the 10th grade at Wawasee High School and Mitchell completed the 11th grade and is currently in the Air Force. The board also approved to submit an application for operating the Adult Basic Education program for 1979-80. The estimated funding will be $14,055 and will cover supplies, equipment, teacher travel, teacher retirement and social security. Marion Lantz, business manager, requested that the appropriations from the curbing project be put back into the cumulative building fund. In other business additional appropriations for the buildings trades storage building, were approved as were all minutes, the financial report, the extra curricular reports, claims and certificates of payment on Project ' 6878 Wawasee High School and for the Lakeland School Building Corporation Kosciusko County 11, Indiana. Don Mort raised a question about the amount of $25,000 on the buildings trades building. He mentioned he thought it was too high for just materials. His question was answered by Arnold saying the $25,000 was the maximum amount allowed.
